Construction will start on the San Jose Creek bike path on September 5, 2017. The path will include a 970-foot long Class I bike path between Kellogg Avenue and Merida Drive near Cathedral Oaks Road. The path will travel from Kellogg Avenue through the open space next to the Kellogg Tennis Courts, over San Jose Creek and along the northern edge of University Open Space. The bike path will also include a 140-foot bridge over San Jose Creek. Construction is expected to be complete by January 2018.

Second District Supervisor Janet Wolf said, “This path is one of the most important connective routes for bike users and the highest priority project in the County’s bicycle master plan. It’s great that the project has reached this milestone and I look forward to seeing the path open soon.”

The bike path is part of the 1993 Goleta Community Plan and 1999 Goleta Transportation Improvement Plan (GTIP). The total cost of the project is $692,000 and includes $400,000 from the Measure A Bike and Pedestrian Program and $292,000 from GTIP. Impact on the traffic will be limited and both the Kellogg Tennis Courts and University Circle Open Space will remain open. Public Works will implement erosion and sedimentation, fugitive dust emission, and water pollution control plans to decrease potential environmental impacts of the bridge construction. Anyone with questions about the project can call Brittany Heaton at (805)568-3035. For information on other Santa Barbara County Public Works Transportation Projects, visit www.pwsb.net.
