A routine CHP traffic stop in northern San Luis Obispo County led to a possible human trafficking Investigation (Photo: CHP)

On October 20, 2025, an Officer from CHP-Coastal Division Commercial Enforcement Unit made an enforcement stop on a speeding vehicle.

During contact with the occupants of the vehicle, the Officer observed indicators of criminal activity.Commercial Enforcement Unit personnel, along with members of Coastal Division’s Investigative Services Unit and CHP-Templeton Area began an investigation related to suspected human trafficking.

This incident occurred on Highway 101 in Northern San Luis Obispo County.

Two victims of human trafficking were identified with the assistance of San Luis Obispo County Victims Advocate Group and provided assistance and services.

Human trafficking is a crime that exploits vulnerable individuals and often hides in plain sight.
