We had fifteen happy hikers on my Rocky Pine Ridge Sierra Club hike last weekend. This is in the area near the top of Gibraltar Road near East Camino Cielo.

Here are all of my photos!

It was a bit warm up above the fog. But everyone had an enjoyable experience in this spectacular and unique spot.

Our first treat was this baby horned lizard along the slippery trail near the start:

That first section of the trail passes above a small ranch that kindly allows us to cross their property

Shane and Kelli came up from their home near Ojai for this unique hiking opportunity. They are well known in the Ojai area for their wonderful art and music events! Here they pose at the first overlook
of Rocky Pine Ridge:

The rest of us posed there, too

A blanket of fog kept the coast cool that day in this spectacular view down the coast toward Carpinteria

Here we followed a primitive trail among the rocks and Coulter pine trees

Hike leader Kristi was one of many who posed as she passed through this rock tunnel

Tatiana is one of my regular hiking fans and she brought her friend Anthony along to enjoy this outing

My wife and I led the way down this steep crevice that is actually quite easy and fun to pass through

Half the group enjoyed this shady spot for lunch

The rest of us sat in a sunny spot with a view. The ocean breeze kept us cool. Ibtisam enjoyed her lofty perch there

We spotted quite a few Mariposa lilies on the way back, including this one being visited by a flying insect

Christian and Valentina tried in vain to open this magic door so we could finish our hike out of Rocky Pine Ridge!

Rocky Pine Ridge is one of my favorite places to bring out of town visitors and one of my favorite hikes overall. Not too strenuous, yet with spectacular views and the special joys of climbing over, under and between rocks and among pine trees. Many people call this area at the top of Gibraltar Road "The Rock Garden".

Remember, the Sierra Club usually has about four hikes each week. Here you can find one that is right for you!

Thank you all for the kind words.
EASTBEACH I once hiked up from the junction of the Tunnel Trail and the Rattlesnake Connector Trail, but it was probably about eight years ago. The lower part of that trail is pretty clear. But when you get up toward the ridge it gets quite confusing. The general rule is to stay to the right (East) when in doubt. I don't recommend it unless you are a very strong hiker.
I think some people call the Rocky Pine Ridge area The Rock Garden.

Good eye spotting the horny toad! Love the lily photo too. I've always known that area as Rocky Pine Ridge or White Mountain (introduced to me by a local old timer Jim Bickel) and have only hiked it from the hang gliding parking area (aka. The Eliminator) . Will have to try from the north sometime. Anyone know what the route from RPP down to Tunnel is like these days? It was a little bit of a scramble years ago.

What wonderful photos! Rocky Pine Ridge is one of my favorite places! It is a lot less travelled than the Playground, and the tagged haven’t defaced it yet. I wanted to join you, but my schedule didn’t allow for it. I recently took my niece from St. Louis, and she was awestruck by the beauty.
