A Minotaur II+ rocket exploded approximately 11 seconds after launching from Test Pad-01 at 11:01 p.m. PDT Wednesday.

There were no injuries in the explosion and the debris was contained to the immediate vicinity of the launch pad.

“We always have emergency response teams on standby prior to every launch,” said Col. Kris Barcomb, Space Launch Delta 30 vice commander and launch decision authority for this launch, “Safety is our priority at all times.”

An investigative review board has been established to determine the cause of the explosion.

  1. Tinker : You’re absolutely right !
2 W.E. ago he launched THREE Space X in TWO days and it worked like clockwork.
Nobody has EVER done that and nobody will any time soon.
Wonder why anybody would use anything else …

  2. More monopolies, please! Nobody benefits from competition, and that’s why only a very few companies ever got government rocket contracts in the past. Now that we have a new superhero monopolist, countless bids and acres of documents can be saved. Just give it all to SpaceX. Let’s shut down the other electric car builders too, and sit back on AutoPilot. Musk for President!

  3. “What’s good for General Motors is good for the US of A.”
Don’t we ever learn to be wary of the chicanery of money grubbing entities and individuals? They have only their own gratification in mind. Musk is a con man, pure and simple. We need government (“We The People”) to stand up to their excess and foster actual competition and fair play.

  4. Sail : When was the last time a Space X crashed ? How many has his placed up in a row now with NO problem and not WASTING the first stage like all the others do ?
Keep hating success it goes with the rest of you !

  5. It was a weapon of war…not too upset it exploded
“The launch was supposed to be the first test supporting the development of the Air Force’s new Mk21A reentry vehicle, which is planned for use on the future LGM-35A Sentinel intercontinental ballistic missile. Both were developed by the Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center.”
