The Housing Authority of the County of Santa Barbara, in partnership with the County of Santa Barbara and City of Goleta, is thrilled to commemorate the opening of its newest supportive housing development, Buena Tierra, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on August 15, 2024 at 2:00 pm at 6021 Hollister Avenue in Old Town Goleta.
Buena Tierra, formerly the Super 8 Hotel, consists of 60 permanent supportive housing units for homeless and chronically homeless individuals, including 15 units designated specifically for youth transitioning out of foster care. Select areas of the property will be available to tour beginning at 1:00 pm, followed by the 2:00 pm ribbon cutting ceremony, which will feature remarks from local and state dignitaries including Senior Advisor on Homelessness to Governor Newsom’s cabinet, Hafsa Kaka; Santa Barbara County Supervisors Joan Hartman and Laura Capps; Senior Regional Advisor for the United States Interagency Council on Homelessness, Helene Schneider; Mayor of the City of Goleta, Paula Perotte; Goleta City Councilmember, James Kyriaco; and more to be confirmed. Light refreshments will be available to attendees. Additional opportunities to tour the property will be available after the ceremony. Come celebrate and learn more about how Buena Tierra is making a positive impact in our community.
“Buena Tierra is more than just a place to live; it’s a beacon of hope and opportunity for those in need,” said Bob Havlicek, HASBARCO Executive Director. “Designed with the well-being of its residents in mind, Buena Tierra represents our unwavering commitment to providing safe, affordable housing and comprehensive support services that empower residents to thrive.”
Much of the project’s cost was awarded through the State of California Homekey 2.0 Program. The funding is part of $70 million in State awards for six new Homekey projects throughout California. When fully operational, the projects will have provided 232 housing units for people experiencing, or at risk of experiencing homelessness. Generous contributions from the County of Santa Barbara and the City of Goleta are also responsible for bringing this project to life.

Way to go, Goleta! This is the type of affordable housing plans we need, not new developments labeled as “affordable” and are anything but. There are plenty of failed hotels and motels and other large-footprint businesses (Sears would have been great) that could be converted to meet not only our housing needs, but the misguided CA housing mandates without the need for developing our open spaces.
More BASIC BS. I’m a Goletan and don’t hate this place. Plenty out here support it. You’re just wrong and once again being excruciatingly sinplistic and ignorant.
What’s your solution to helping house the homeless? You cry about new development and now you’re crying about this. You useless folks do nothing but complain about the homeless and then throw tantrums anytime some tries to help them.
Some people love to just leech off societt and complain about everything.
Goletans hate this place. No one who lives around here celebrates it in any way. It’s unfortunate that it’s landed here.
Yesterday I posted what I thought was an innocent question of curiosity, but my posting was deleted by the Administrator. I would truly like to know the answer to my question. And would truly like to know why the Administrator found it offensive – so I can avoid such things in the future.
My question, by the way, was “Why do “City of Goleta” and its website address, both have lines through them?”
Some sort of website issue EdHat is having, and apparently covering up lol. I’ve seen crossed out links on several different articles
The links are still active. This is a tech issue that is being address. No cover up or ed conspiracy is taking place, although we appreciate your imagination.
