What makes you say there is no teeth in the law? Do you know what the penalty is burglary? For conspiracy to commit a felony? In reality these people will face prison time and probably get some. Congratulations to the Governor and Legislature for creating this resource to support such interdiction and enforcement. Much better than nabbing the occasional teen aged petty thief.
Dishonesty makes the troll say it.
Wow. Seems like these guys are making a living repeatedly ripping off stores, and will probably continue to do so, given how soft CA law is on them. Why not keep being a criminal if there’s no real teeth in the law?
BASIC – READ. THE. ARTICLE.
For once, read.
It’s a chosen lifestyle that can be an is quite lucrative for many. California law does nearly nothing to prevent this from continuing. Remember, there is a willing public and business sector willing to buy the things that are being ripped off. The liberal/woke policies of this state are comical….COMICAL. We would be wise to lock more people up for longer periods of time, but need to first build places to keep these criminals. It does not help to have bleeding-heart judges hand out soft penalties. Sounds harsh, but it works.
More con crap from Bends Knees and the BI Guy.
Did you read the article? What it describes is a lot more than “nearly nothing” that is being done to address this particular crime. What is farcical rather than comical is the right wing fascination with punishment and revenge. We, the general public, end up paying huge costs for a prison system (that at one time a few years back was costing more than the state university and college system) that was mainly a sop to the prison guards union that supported so many (a lot of Democrats) politicians. These guards were among the highest paid employees in state government. And the results of that lock em up process was a pretty invisible impact on crime rates. The present balance seems to be dropping crime and improving rehabilitation and protecting the people. We do need, however, more psychiatric care outside of penal joints!
RHS: Fair enough. You seem to be satisfied with the current system, and that’s great. I agree that we need to increase psychiatric care inside and outside of prisons/jails.
BEES – what part of arrested and booked don’t you understand?
Oh wait, you didn’t read the article, did you? You and BASIC are something else….
I’d like to see our great state be a lot harder on crime. Go easy on it, like we are, and it encourages career criminals like these clowns.
Both the FBI and BJS data show dramatic declines in U.S. violent and property crime rates since the early 1990s, when crime spiked across much of the nation. Americans tend to believe crime is up, even when official data shows it is down.
Here are some more facts for you: https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2024/04/24/what-the-data-says-about-crime-in-the-us/
What would you prefer? Life in prison? Exile ro a jungle prison without trial? Shot on sight?
Our prisons are overflowing and you want to pay more in taxes to house and feed people for years just for stealing some clothes?
Maybe instead we do exactly what the article YOU DIDN’T BOTHER TO READ is talking about – more task forces like this to deter wannabe criminals.
Reading opens so many doors….
You mean the clowns now in the federal administration? Yes, they should definitely face consequences.
