I live off Turnpike and wanted to see if others are dealing with the same issue.
Parking has always been tight in this area, but it has now escalated to the point where it feels unsustainable for residents. Most households here have more than one car, and street parking is extremely limited, especially after standard work hours.
Up until recently, many residents relied on the Turnpike Plaza (behind Vons) as overflow parking. That is no longer an option. New signage has gone up stating:
- 2-hour parking limit for customers only
- Unauthorized vehicles will be towed at the owner’s expense
- No trespassing between 11 PM – 5 AM
So effectively, overnight overflow parking is gone.
A neighbor reached out to our property management to flag how widespread this issue is and asked whether they could help coordinate a solution (for example, a permitted agreement with the shopping center or alternatives). The response was essentially that the lot is privately owned and they are unsure if they can assist, with no clear next steps or interim support offered.
This leaves a large portion of residents without any realistic parking options.
At a minimum, it feels like landlords/property management companies should:
- Acknowledge the scale of the issue
- Communicate proactively with residents
- Explore partnerships or temporary solutions
- Advocate on behalf of tenants, even if they don’t control the lot
Right now, it feels like tenants are being left to figure this out individually.
Is anyone else in the Turnpike area dealing with this? Are any landlords actually stepping in with solutions or support?

You see it prominently there because you live in the neighborhood. It’s a problem in just about every neighborhood. I just counted and just 5 of my neighbors have a total of 25 cars in a residential neighborhood. Only one of those is a rental.
