Why can't anyone just say thanks for the number and stop snarking? I'll be happy to report "lost" carts and get them off the street!

Thanks for posting this info, OP. Over the years I have reported plenty of abandoned carts. What frosts me is when the carts are left in creeks or out in open space areas where it's a real chore for anyone to access the carts in order to retrieve them. I don't understand why our local supermarkets and other shops (CVS, et al) can't institute measures to prevent the carts from being absconded with in the first place. There's a way to lock the wheels (I think Ralph's has that already) to prevent the cart being taken off the lot. In other countries (Australia comes to mind), the shopper needs to insert a coin to get a shopping cart and then the coin is redeemed when the cart is returned to its proper place.

How about keeping our city streets by cleaning them. There are a great number of city streets that have not been cleaned by order of the city council for over 35 years! Those streets that are being cleaned, are being "cleaned" by stone-age sweepers that do nothing more than throw grime and filth into the neighborhood's air. WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOUR FILTHY STREET WAS CLEANED?

Just be sure to remain anonymous, God knows what kind of trouble you could get yourself into by reporting an abandoned shopping cart.

Ducky - We're all paying be it built into the "cost of doing business" for the missing cart's owner, City, whomever! "Trust me."

When there is personal property found in shopping carts the police respond to collect it.

What if shopping carts are full of homeless belongings? Are the shopping cart retrievers going to dump out homeless belongings?

Whatever the passed on cost is to the retailer whose carts are being stolen, or who decide to implement a wheel locking system to prevent theft. Either way, you do the math.

Nothing? Unless you want to infer some kind of price of goods increase due to retailers paying a 3rd party to collect shopping carts around town.
