The Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors adopted a recommendation to reduce the cost of an annual County parks day-use pass. The annual pass fee for Veterans who served in the United States Armed Forces or Reserves has been reduced to $10 for all Veterans irrespective of residence. Formerly, the annual fee was $50 for Veteran residents of Santa Barbara County and $60 for Veterans residing outside of the county. The annual pass is good for one year from the date of purchase.

The annual pass is accepted at Cachuma Lake Recreation Area and Jalama Beach County Park for day-use entry. The pass can be purchased at both parks, and at County Community Services Department Parks Division, 123 East Anapamu Street, Second Floor, Santa Barbara, 93101. In the near future, passes can also be purchased at Lompoc Veterans Memorial and Santa Barbara Veterans Memorial buildings.

In order to purchase a Veterans annual pass, a customer will need to present one of three eligible identifications:

  • California Driver’s License or Identification Card with the Veteran designation issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicles,
  • California State Parks Distinguished Veteran Pass issued by the California State Parks, or
  • Veterans Identification Card (VIC) issued by the US Department of Veterans Affairs.

How many veterans don't have any of those documents? I don't. Guess I'll be paying full price. Which is fine. I can afford it.

Nonsense again. This faux patriotism is becoming absurd. There is no real evidence that 'veterans' are less able to pay for this service than are other deserving folks. If we want to discount for disability let's talk about that. Otherwise, maybe we should give discounts to clergy? To school aides? To nurses and people who tend our terminal cases in hospice? ad naseum Aggggghhhhh

Thank you Supervisor Joan Hartmann for supporting this discount. Hopefully you can lead the charge to get a discount on camping cabins/spaces on the next go-round. Handicapped and regular cabins go for 150-200+ a night, a bit steep for your average camper.
