Red Flag Warning Through Tuesday

The threat of wind driven wildfire is a terrifying reality for our SoCal communities. We were "caught" on the south side of the Woolsey fire, literally on 101, and then took to Calabasas areas roads to escape the flames and flying embers. We drove to the coast with embers flying and winds raging. The entire area we drove through went up in flames a few hours later. Three people died. We made it out but will never forget what a fire induced wind storm can feel like. We have tremendous gratitude for the firefighters who risk their lives in these events. 87 people lost their lives in Paradise California that same day (Nov. 8, 2018) in another disastrous wind driven wildfire. Please take warnings seriously and evacuate immediately if a fire looms.

In reality, this is a little scary for the mountain folk... and should also be for the 'flat landers' High winds and low humidities.... for a long duration. Or Fire Porn as we call it. And the Cave Fire was determined to be... arson. Winds are slated to be out of the due East for at least 12 hours at a good clip - not a lot to burn to the east of our community, because we already had our arson fire, but plenty to burn below and to the west of us. Perhaps not an appropriate place for political arguments.

Carpentaria? I'm sure these warnings are just issued for fun. The armchair weatherman has it all figured.

Up here, weather is everything. It's predicted we will be hit by an unusual east and dry wind. I didn't sign up for the 'alerts' with the county, and I don't keep a cell phone. I track the weather. NOAA and Windy are the two the are checked, as well as the Navy weather forecast. If anyone wants links, I would be happy to include.

MM, have you checked the local weather forecasts yourself, or are you just responding to this advisory. In areas of Goleta and the City of Santa Barbara, including the Painted Cave Crest Station, the conditions are not going to be that extreme. Nothing close to what we had a last month. To the North (Lompoc) and South (Carpentaria), yes, it looks a bit dry and windy.

Ooh. Now you're an armchair Governor, too. That quote is a non-sequitur coming from someone who hasn't excelled.

You have to wonder why some people feel resentment when others excel in domains the critics know little about. Is it simple narcissism, or the Dunning-Kruger effect?

"Remember, you cannot leave your house to go outside, even if it's healthier for you to be outside. Therefore if your house is on fire, too bad. Abandon common sense and stay inside your burning house, you science-denying COVIDIOTS!" XOXO, Gavin

Well, Superfreak, you've gone from being slightly contrarian to total cartoon character.

What's up with the hyperbole, Chem? Usually you're a voice of cool reason. Gavin's messages specifically encourage people to get outdoors during the "lockdown."
