The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for gusty sundowner winds and low relative humidity…which is in effect from 6 PM Thursday to 10 AM PDT Saturday.
Winds: North 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph, strongest below passes and canyons and foothills of the Santa Ynez Range Friday evening.
Relative Humidity: Dropping to between 10 and 20 percent during the windiest periods. Lowest in the foothills and through the canyons.
Temperatures: Mid 80s to mid 90s during the late afternoon and evening with isolated locations around 100, especially Friday in the foothills of the Santa Ynez Range.
Impacts: If fire ignition occurs, conditions may be favorable for extreme fire behavior which would threaten life and property.
A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
Usually when they put this warning out we end up having a fire. Fingers crossed that we won’t but statistics show otherwise and there are some pretty ignorant people that play with fire in our mountains.
“Arson Porn”? If a fire breaks out there definitely could be “mass destruction”. But then, maybe the brother forgot about the over 200 homes destroyed over night in the Tea Fire and the over 200 burned down in the Jesusita Fire. A life was lost in the Painted Cave Fire.
