Sac, I think elder will be able to ease covid restrictions and mask rules, help reduce the cost of utilities, start the process of improving our water infrastructure, start the process of improving forest management so we can finally put a stop to all these “mega fires,” start the process of improving road and freeway infrastructure to mitigate traffic congestion, reduce restrictive regulations on property development to facilitate the construction of new housing, reduce the cost of gasoline, reduce the cost of vehicle registration, and much much more. I think elder could accomplish a lot in a year. What has newsom accomplished to improve our lives?

    But, since I can’t just walk away (as you tend to do), here you go: “The FBI has found scant evidence that the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol was the result of an organized plot to overturn the presidential election result” —– yep, read that again. It has NOTHING to do with, nor does it conclude that Trump in no way instigated, encouraged, supported, failed to stop, etc etc the violent insurrection against our democracy. In fact, that it was not an organized and planned, premeditated attack, lends even MORE credence to the idea that the insurrection was the result of an inflammatory and bombastic event (gee, I wonder what….) that fed lies and paranoid rhetoric into a crowd of agitated and gullible rioters who were clearly ready for violence. To say Trump had nothing to do with the cowardly attack on my government is intellectually dishonest and treasonous, if you ask me.
    And I don’t give a rats &&^ about every word in his speech, he knew what he was doing. He’d been doing it for over 4 years. His people wanted to fight, he told them to “If you don’t fight like hell you’re not going to have a country anymore” and “We’re going to the Capitol!” as if to rally them behind him. Sadly, the poor fools thought they were truly an army of patriots being led into battle by a pathetic cowards.

  24. Everybody keeps going on about their “rights” and “freedoms”…. again, as I’ve posted multiple times…. You CANNOT have a society that provides “freedoms” without a corresponding amount of “responsibility”. You know how, if you’re a store manager or owner, you get more money, and more leeway to do things that the line employees don’t. However, you are also the one who has to stay late, come in if someone doesn’t show, and ultimately, the buck stops with you. This situation is NO DIFFERENT. All these people protesting about how their “freedoms” are being violated haven’t engaged in ONE BIT of social responsibility in regards to an epidemic that has literally killed hundreds of thousands of people. Its so frustrating….
    And I’m not saying that Newsom is some holy grail of governance; he violated his own orders for his own personal desires, and in doing such, did a HORRIBLE job at being a leader who “leads from the front”, and he should be taken to task for that. But the rest of these people are simply acting out emotionally, without comprehending the fact that as MEMBERS OF A SOCIETY, they have a SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY to inconvenience themselves for the good of the society as a whole, ergo wearing masks, social distancing, and GETTING THE DAMNED VACCINE!!!!
    If y’all REALLY wanna live in a “society” where you can have all you want, yet give nothing in return, the bottom line is that the mighty and the rich will come out on top EVERY TIME. Ask yourself; is that REALLY the type of society you wanna live in?

  41. This is a pretty small group. Looks like maybe 2 dozen. They seem to be the crowd that follows Elder around. Probably paid to do so but may be just enthusiasts. One cannot trust any of this anymore as we know that politicians regularly hire folks to make a showing. (The ethics of those taking the money is another question–Trump began his candidacy with hired NY models and actors watching him descend the escalator. Pretty likely he also hired the “Black for Trump” persona that was de riguer at every rally right behind him.) So don’t be too impressed by this sort of small event.

I really really REALLY want Newsom recalled for so many reasons but, when it comes to Covid, I am concerned because I don’t want to see us end up like Texas and Florida, with high cases b/c everyone takes off their mask even if unvaccinated or refuses vaccines, etc. Insight on this from reasonable folks would help me to decide today.

Florida and Texas aren’t any worse than neighboring blue states, it only seems that way with how the media reports it (look at those dumb red states while ignoring the blue states next door also spiking). It is a complete illusion that all the mandates had anything but a nominal impact on the virus spread. Oregon had stricter mandates than CA and they just had a big spike, we went full on last fall and still had a big spike. No one can point to data over the past 18 months and say this state did better than that state because they had stricter mandates.
