The Read ‘n Post store in Montecito will permanently close this Saturday, April 24. The store will host an informal all-day “final fling” on Saturday, with free light refreshments and “a chance for us to say ‘thank you and best wishes always’ to our customers and friends,” said Jan Hendrickson, principal owner of Read ‘n Post. Closing time Saturday will be 5:30 p.m.
“Read ‘n Post has had more than 35 wonderful years as part of the Montecito community,” said Hendrickson, “and we don’t want to close our doors without the opportunity to express our appreciation for the warm friendship and support that we have received from so many people over those years.”
Saturday’s “final fling” will give longtime Read ‘n Post staff member Robin Machado one more chance to dress up in one of the costumes that became her trademark on holidays for many years. “We don’t know what Robin will wear on Saturday,” said Hendrickson, “but we know it will be worth coming in to see!”
Read ‘n Post is in the midst of a “Spring Sale of Good-Bye and Gratitude” that will continue through Saturday, with prices reduced by 50 per cent on all items except Mother’s Day and Father’s Day cards, which are priced at 20 per cent off regular price.
After Read ‘n Post closes, its current space in the Montecito Country Mart will be renovated to prepare for a new shop, Montecito Mercantile, which will open in May. More details about Montecito Mercantile will be announced soon.
The U.S. Post Office, which has operated as part of Read ‘n Post for many years, will continue in its current location. Access during the renovation will be through the door opening to the Montecito Country Mart courtyard. During the transition through late May, post office hours will continue to be 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays, and 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays.
Montecito Country Mart owner Jim Rosenfield and his staff are currently making arrangements with the U.S. Postal Service to continue the post office under new management beginning in June. “We know the post office is very important to the residents of Montecito, and we appreciate the commitment of Jim and his staff to assuring a seamless transition in postal services,” said Jan Hendrickson and Read ‘n Post co-owner John Devereaux.
