Re-Proposal in Holiday Fire Burn Area

A couple digging through the remnants of their home that burned in the Holiday Fire re-enacted their proposal after finding their wedding ring.
Santa Barbara County Fire Department Public Information Officer Mike Eliason captured the scene as the couple returned to their home off Fairview Ave.
County firefighters led Ishu and Laura Rao to search for Laura's wedding ring in their demolished home of three years. She found the damaged Tiffany ring and Ishu promptly dropped to a knee and asked her to marry him again.
A heartwarming story amidst a devastating event that struck the Goleta area on Friday evening. The Holiday Fire destroyed 13 single-family residences, damaged 3 single-family residences, and destroyed 15 outbuildings that include barns, workshops, and sheds. Thankfully, there were no deaths, injuries, and missing people throughout this quick-moving fire.

Jul 09, 2018 03:55 AMI first saw this story through my news aggregator, which linked to the Fox News site ... with some predictably awful comments, with sweeping attacks against women and California: http://www.foxnews.com/us/2018/07/08/california-man-proposes-again-with-rings-found-in-ashes-destroyed-home.html

Jul 08, 2018 11:27 PMThink I might get it cleaned, repaired, and wear it! A symbol of LOVE surviving, against all odds. As well as being able to find it! Hope their love survives for many many decades... With only happiness moving forward from this trying time in their lives.

Jul 08, 2018 07:14 PMVery sweet story! I'd have that ring made into a necklace, as a memory, to keep.
