Public Invited to Goleta Workshop to Discuss Spending Priorities for Potential 1% Sales Tax Measure

Source: City of Goleta

The City of Goleta invites public input on a priority spending plan for a potential 1% sales tax measure that would be placed on the November 2022 ballot. After receiving a presentation on polling results at its June 7, 2022, meeting, Council directed staff to return with a Sales Tax Measure Ordinance for adoption. Public input remains an important part of this process. The community is encouraged to attend a Special City Council Meeting this coming Tuesday, June 14, from 10:30 a.m. to noon either in person or virtually to let us know what your spending priorities are in the event a sales tax measure is approved by voters.

You can also watch the meeting live on the City’s website at www.CityofGoleta.org/GoletaMeetings or Goleta TV Channel 19. Written comments are welcomed in advance of the meeting and can be submitted to CityClerkGroup@CityofGoleta.org. Information on how to participate will be available in the agenda along with the staff report. The agenda and staff report will be posted at least 72 hours prior to the meeting at www.CityofGoleta.org/GoletaMeetings.

The City Council has long recognized that in order to address many important unfunded capital projects and deferred maintenance needs, the City will need to establish an additional locally controlled source of ongoing funding. The unfunded priorities include repairing streets and roads, addressing homelessness, repairing an aging local infrastructure, improving creeks and waterways, and many other important efforts.

If Council approves the Sales Tax Measure Ordinance at its June 21, 2022, Council Meeting, the measure will be placed on the November 8, 2022, General Election ballot.

For more background including polling results, view the June 7 Council meeting staff report here or go to our Goleta’s Next 20 webpage at www.CityofGoleta.org/GoletaNext20to see survey results of priorities that Goleta residents found most important.
