Power Outage in Santa Barbara

Prepare for more power outages as Summer demand increases while hydroelectric capacity decreases. Half of Hoover Dam power goes to CA and it is only operating @ 66% generating capacity due to low water. The Oroville Dam hydro plant will like;y shut down completely for the first time due to low water. Evenings when the PV arrays shut down will likely be the most problematic.
My 93 year old mom sleeps with a CPAP machine that needs electricity. We'll look into some kind of battery back up. Has anyone else done this?

Some of the most fanatical Montecito "green" people have diesel generators because natural gas will be broken in an earthquake.
The move to lithium battery packs is in response to this, but lithium battery production from mining to final product is a heavy polluter... it just happens overseas or out in the mine.
A super inefficient way to power something like a CPAP in an emergency would be an inverter you can attach to the battery of your car/truck and no one cares about the inefficiency if a life is at stake

You make a good point, lots more outages are on the way. More and more people are now relying on home generators to take up the slack during the increasingly frequent outages. It’s kind of ironic that the push for “green” energy is resulting in a shift towards gasoline and diesel power generation at home.

We bought a Maxoak CPAP battery so we could take the CPAP camping. It cost about $300 and lasts only about two nights. Takes several hours to recharge. Maybe there are better ones now—we bought ours a few years ago.

Thank you for this info. There are so many people, that, literally, get left in the dark with no information and worse, no confirmation.

My power went out, but is now back on. Edison still has it on the outage map with 4,800 customers, still determining the cause of the outage.
