Flicka Jul 08, 2019 09:41 AM Police Pull Over Stolen Vehicle I have no idea where Santa Barbara got the reputation as a community of "old people". The refrain was our residents were "nearly dead and newly wed". Sure there were retired folks, they had grown up here and raised their families, then retired. The "newly wed" had jobs, bought homes and had children. Nearly all businesses were locally owned, sometimes for generations of the same family. It became as a tourist destination in the 19th century and that continues today. What has really changed is SB is much bigger now with a larger population.
