The involved driver and passenger were uninjured and cooperative with the investigation.

Prior to the accident, the motor officer was conducting traffic enforcement in the area. The circumstances surrounding the cause of the collision is under investigation. Our waiter witnessed the accident. He said the person in the vehicle was quite elderly. He said he was very upset after the accident and he tried to help.

OK, I ride motorcycles- I KNOW motorcycles, big and small. The bikes that a municipality like Santa Barbara is using are TOO BIG for what they use them for....! They are using HIGHWAY BIKES...! They need 450cc Enduros NOT 1300cc behemoths ! All they use them for is traffic in an urban setting- the speed limts in town are no higher than 45MPH. There is absolutely ZERO justification for riding such large bikes in SB.... except the bonehead who orders them gets his EGO stroked! Break with tradition SBPD- COME ON!

@SANTABARBARA- LA County Sheriff's had dirt bikes patrolling hiking trails during the summer months. You are correct regarding SFPD patrolling with enduros- They train their motors to go up and down park stairs, railroad right of ways and other hard access areas. Also, Boise PD has used BMW f650's for years downtown... The fortunate thing about SBPD motors is that they are wearing better full face modular helmets and proper riding pants/foot wear and jackets....UNLIKE CHP...

Interesting point. In SF they use the smaller enduro style bikes to patrol the parks and downtown. I wonder why they're on the big ones here. You know who else could use dirt bikes? The SBSO and the Search and Rescue. A decent rider can take a dirt bike up any of our mountain trails in minutes. With all the issues we have on the mountains, I never understood why we didn't have a few of these bikes ready to go. Instead, they walk up or rely on a helicopters. Hope the guy heals up soon. Pavement hurts!

Right you are, Coastwatch! There is no need at all for the 1,000+ cc bikes that are used for local traffic enforcement. I'm sure my old 750-cc Honda Shadow would be more than adequate for 99.9% of urban police work, plus it's lighter and far more nimble in traffic. I'd be interested in the rationale for using the bloated bikes.

How many accidents has this poor guy had? Glad he is not seriously hurt but he has had numerous accidents while on duty. He was last hauled off on a stretcher on February 27, 2017.

Isn’t this his second accident?! Hope he’s alright. He’s good at his job and I appreciate every ticket given to speeders in school zones during school hours.

Roger, I saw John Palminteri's photos on his twitter account, and the officer is the guy in the S.B.P.D. Lip Sync video, Officer Scott Naganuma; he gave Kenny Loggins the speeding ticket. Nice guy, he gave me a ticket once, too! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2QUBQo12nH0

This guy towed my card, that was the most wonderful experience I have ever had. Unnecessary panic and desperation are a wonderful tool of power and effective ways to get all your CA$H!

There are no more inconsiderate and dangerous drivers than law enforcement. I had a chp bike splitting lanes at 70mph for zero reason at all just days ago.

Yes, imminent retirement! Although, Officer Nakamoura is also …. em·i·nent Dictionary result for eminent. LOL /ˈemənənt/ adjective adjective: eminent (of a person) famous and respected within a particular sphere or profession.

It was obviously no reason at all because he continued cruising along not far in front of us for miles. He was so reckless, my wife actually thought he had hit our car and yet the slow lane was totally empty for him to pass. I see examples of officers on phones, blowing through stop signs, and always speeding everywhere they go.

@1:21pm, why does pointing out an observation = hating cops, in your mind? What's wrong with talking about observed shortcomings of civil servants? We all have room to improve, even police - they are people, too.

MONKEY BOY why do you hate cops so much? How do you know the officer was doing that "for no reason at all"? Are you privy to their radio traffic or something? Not everything requires a siren.

He was sitting up on the stretcher alert and talking and the PD spokesman said it didn't appear too serious. Also they did not go code 3 to Cottage.

MONKEYBOY - Sounds like this cop might be really hurt bad, so try to lay off the childish cop-bashing for at least a little while.
