Just for perspective, remember that in the Middle Ages few people ever went further than a day's walk from the village they were born in, because of brigands thieves and robbers on the road. It has been ever thus.

Murders, shootouts, suicidal fatal car crashes taking others down, grand theft auto, plus cold hard cash lifted from a shopping center ..in just one week ....has life in this town become a worst nightmare video game? What happened people. This is not my generation's version of the good life. Why is it anyone recipe for life in Santa Barbara?

A lot of it is because of thorough media attention, it's in our faces a LOT more than it was 20, 30, 40 years ago. Crime is down compared to "your generation", and consistently falling (especially violent crime). One bad week does not make a generational trend. Mental health is another story.

More people = more problems. There has always been crime in Santa Barbara and now it's escalating, thanks to too many people plus illegals and meth and on and on.
