The Santa Barbara City Planning Commission unanimously approved the development plan for the new Police Station.

On Thursday, the commission reviewed the main land use, which is appealable to the City Council. The next step in the process is design review.

“This is a very exciting time for the City, for the Design Team, and most importantly for the Police Department. After four years we are one step closer to moving the Police Department into a new facility,” said Public Works Principal Project Manager, Brad Hess.

The project is expected to begin construction in 2024 with a completion date in 2026.

  1. It would be well worth designing the building to look good underneath the solar panels. Once the solar fad passes, and the panels wear out and get sent overseas to safely and responsibly “recycle” the toxic materials they contain the building might look a little bare. Then again, that would be a great time to start this process all over again to do a redesign.
