Unionized healthcare workers and Planned Parenthood California Central Coast (PPCCC) have reached a tentative agreement averting a potential strike.
The union, SEIU-United Healthcare Workers West (SEIU), stated the agreement both supports the clinical staff of the organization as well as positions the organization to face the challenges ahead.
“As we’ve moved through the bargaining process, both sides have been invested in supporting the staff and treating them with dignity and respect. This tentative agreement builds on PPCCC’s culture of care and compassion and will enable the organization to continue to deliver excellent, high-quality care for some of California’s most vulnerable patients,” SEIU stated.
SEIU-UHW and PPCCC are hopeful the represented employees will vote to ratify the contract in the coming weeks, according to the public statement.
Employees claimed turnover reached crisis levels as experienced caregivers left for for higher-paying, more sustainable jobs causing the remaining workforce to be stretched thin, putting patient care at risk.
The strike would have included a range of essential health center staff at six clinics across the Central Coast, including medical assistants, health educators, clinicians, and support staff.
PPCCC clinics are located in San Luis Obispo, Santa Maria, Santa Barbara, Ventura, Oxnard, and Thousand Oaks.
