Pink Martini Brings Festive Charm to the Arlington

By Joni Schafer

UC Santa Barbara Arts & Lectures brought Pink Martini back again for another year of holiday merriment at the Arlington Theatre.

The eleven-piece band has become a musical tradition for locals this time of year and December 8th proved to be no different. They performed a mixture of holiday classics, festive hits, and original songs that kept the audience engaged and enthralled.

Formed 23 years ago in Portland, Oregon charismatic pianist Thomas Lauderdale, Pink Martini blends classical music, classic pop, Latin music, and a hearty dose of jazz. Their lead vocalists China Forbes and Storm Large have never disappointed and they sure didn’t let anyone down in Santa Barbara.

The group performed a variety of songs from their holiday album “Joy to the World” and holiday traditional Christmas songs like “White Christmas” and “Do You See What I See?” They also belted out a unique version of  “Auld Lang Syne” for Chinese New Year.

It was another fun performance to get our community in the mood for the heart-warming winter holiday.
