A pickup truck collided with another pickup truck hauling a cattle trailer on Highway 154 Monday morning.
At 10:53 a.m., Santa Barbara County Firefighters responded to the intersection of Foxen Canyon Road and Highway 154 in Los Olivos.
The two adult male occupants in the pickup truck with the trailer were able to self-extricate from the vehicle. They both sustained minor injuries and refused ambulance transport to the hospital, against medical advice.
In the second pickup truck were three young adult females. The pickup sustained heavy impact to its side doors. Two occupants were able to self extricate while the third was extricated by firefighters.
Two of the three occupants sustained major injuries. They were transported by a ground ambulance to the Santa Ynez Airport and subsequently airlifted to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for treatment.
The third occupant sustained moderate injuries and was transported to Santa Ynez Cottage Hospital by a ground ambulance.
It’s unclear if any animals were inside the trailer at the time of the collision.
The collision is under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
As a rancher, I have to say that I am sure the two guys one truck with the trailer were not at fault. People who haul animals are very cautious.
You have no way of knowing that. Since we’re speaking in conjecture, I’ve had a handful of “ranchers” and “animal haulers” illegally pull out in front of me.
The Females needed a higher level of care than Santa Ynez can provide. Taking them there when they needed a trauma center as capable as Cottage doesn’t really make sense?? Hope all recover.
