  1. This comes as LA County now has the highest infection rate in the country. You get THREE GUESSES as to where the Angelenos decide to take their weekend getaways? Screw you Newsom for going to Stage 3 in the first place. Bars and wineries should NOT BE OPEN.

  2. You wanna know how the British managed to win so many conflicts and establish a world empire? Divide and conquer; I’ve been reading these threads for the past while, and all I see is people talking, asserting, screaming, mocking, belittling… but not listening…. we’re playing right into China and Russia’s hands… and just like countless great civilizations before us, we’re gonna fall to the most pernicious of foes; division. For both sides, instead of insulting one another, try actually listening to what each is saying, and have civil discourse based in logic, understanding, reasoning, and MOST importantly- empathy. We’re not gonna get anywhere if we don’t. .

  3. I’ve actually been back to my gym three times in the last week. All the treadmills are upstairs and the weight equipment is downstairs. It’s no problem staying at least 6’ away from anyone else. I sanitize the equipment before I touch it and I sanitize it after I’m done. They have lots of hand sanitizer available and antiviral spray bottles and rags to keep things clean. If someone is in the treadmill area upstairs running like crazy and going all out HR Huff-n-Puff-n-Stuff, it just avoid that area altogether.

  4. Running Mike if he is serious is just trying to cope. Look up why people gravitate towards conspiracy theories. Its often that they are anxious, overwhelmed and feel helpless during an uncertain time. They are trying to feel in control.

  5. Spot on, although I would look other places than China and Russia. Easy targets. easy boogey-men. So 1984. Do you know the definition of a ‘third world country’? It’s a political classification that denotes a country that has not allied/aligned with either the US or Russia.

  6. These business are the first that should have been allowed open – one on one, and are tasked with knowing about and combating transmissible diseases, they are licensed in this! Like the ridiculousness of opening tennis first (I’ll pick up this ball and swat it to you, you pick it up and swat it to me) But not allowing skateboarding – 0ver here touching my own board, not touching you, not near you….. So stoopid.

  7. Let’s see…..28 deaths so far in Santa Barbara County, virtually all in Santa Maria, the prison, and to the elderly, and almost every one of those with the classification of “underlying heath conditions.” . That is .000006 of the population here. I am really, really worried.

  8. All it takes is one infected person to unknowingly spread the virus to a few people, who each then spread it to a few more, and voila! we have an outbreak where we didn’t before. And death is not the only unwelcome outcome—some who recover are left with long term problems. Don’t “worry” about it, just take simple precautions.

  9. @10:35, boasting? Uh ok. I’m just tired of people lying saying that all the businesses aren’t following rules, that is a lie and it further hurts our economy, lots of people ARE following the rules. I am trying to eat at as many restaurants and shop at as many stores as I can so people can stay employed, I’m sorry you have a problem with that but too bad. Oh and @10:21 the stay home order ended on 5/31/2020 but nice attempt to guilt trip me.

  10. Food for thought – I had to go out to see a doctor today. I walked and took the bus. Excluding persons inside buildings, inside any vehicle, or in outside restaurants, I counted the number of people I observed walking, running. or bike riding. I observed 75 people, and 32 of them were wearing masks – 43%. Only about ¼ of those not wearing masks were under 30. I am under the impression that Gov. Newsmen declared facemasks in public mandatory. Some people act oblivious or they don’t care. CA is spiking like crazy now, due to many ignoring public health guidelines, and now we are all paying the price. I just can’t see the downside to everyone wearing a mask when in public. Free masks are available. Opening anything else seems short sighted. In fact, we should take a step or two back.

  11. No, they are just saying they think things will close again soon because of a surge. Unlikely to close and the surge already started… if people wear masks and wash/sanitize hands and stay home when sick hopefully the surge won’t be long lasting. Sadly many have already decided go forego masks and ignore precautions.

  12. How would you know do travel the country each day to inspect every business or do you hide at home on your computer and guess? I am hitting all the stores and restaurants in Santa Barbara and Goleta and haven’t seen one place that isn’t doing what they’ve been forced to do by local and state government.

  13. I do understand that these business owners really want to get back to work and their staff. But COVID-19 is not going away anytime soon. More cases every day here in the county of SB. Nearly 30 (or over) deaths. Many of the public are not wearing masks. Tourists coming up from L. A., and it is much worse now in L. A. with more cases and deaths from COVID-19 on daily basis. Don’t be surprised if there will be a second or even a third wave of COVID-19. As much I would really like to go to some of my favorite establishments for food and drinks, I am not going to take that chance. And it is not paranoia, I just want to be safe. Many who thought that they weren’t going to come down with it, they did.

  14. I don’t necessarily think it’s a great idea, but on the other hand, I’d be more likely willing to get a facial with someone wearing a mask than go to a gym with 20 people breathing in an enclosed space.

  15. Lucky’s in Montecito just shut down again due to the chef testing positive for COVID. That chef also works at TreLune. So now our little bubble in Santa Barbara is feeling much less secure. I’ve dined at numerous restaurants around town as long as I can sit outdoors or right by an open door and what I’m observing is that they are trying to make an effort but it’s falling short…I’m seeing waiters with masks falling below their noses, waiters wearing “vented” masks which don’t protect guests, bartender shook the head of a patron and carried on making drinks without washing his bare hands, cooks with masks down below their noses, customers wandering around the restaurant without putting their masks back on. All these things will add up to spreading the virus. I was so anxious to get back to some normalcy in terms of dining out but if restaurant managers can’t/won’t take the masking guidelines more seriously then how are we supposed to feel remotely safe about going out to eat? And, before someone replies with a snarky comment that I should just stay home if I don’t like it…That’s my plan if restaurants can’t do better.

  16. Yeah, I was out a bit yesterday, and it’s frustrating to see how many people don’t follow good practices. People get too close when they don’t need to, and so on. I want to go out and help the economy (I have money to spend!) but there is too much out of my control. I know there are no guarantees, but if more people would make a greater effort, it would help us all.

  17. X01660 – well said. I know this is contrary to the very thing you are saying, but empathy is where the “two sides” diverge. There is absolutely zero empathy in the conservative way of thinking. Look at the racism issue, covid (as far as spreading to unhealthy people), welfare, homelessness, illegal immigration, etc etc etc….. It’s the complete lack of empathy that upsets so many people. And no, “empathy” for rich, white, US citizens doesn’t count. It’s about empathy for the down trodden, the oppressed, the hurting and dying people. I’d give anything to have a logical, meaningful conversation with the other side, but the utter lack of empathy is where conversations shut down and devolve to “yelling” online. Sorry, but they just don’t give a flying pooh about people in need, it’s basically the foundation of conservatism.

  18. 8:02 a.m. How can it possibly be responsible behavior for you (or anyone) to be “hitting all the stores and restaurants in Santa Barbara and Goleta”? Either you are a threat to public health and the advice/direction to stay at home and only go out when necessary or you are exaggerating for political purposes. So it is pretty odd that you would be accusing others of such excess.

  19. LA posts the name of businesses that had employee[s] test positive. Why isn’t SB? Lucky’s was transparent enough to announce their chef tested positive, so that the public can decide if they need to get tested [if they were there], and if positive stay home – or if they want to go there for the next 2 weeks or so. This would be responsible action for the city to take to keep us all safe. Why don’t they? And like someone else said, I personally am staying home, maybe ordering takeout from only a few restaurants that I haven’t yet seen be negligent in masking practices, and ordering other things online that I need. If I am going out it will be for hikes, walks, etc. away from others [aside from essential grocery shopping that I can’t do online except SPROUTS does offer pickup which is great as longas their employees are properly masking themselvs.]

  20. ABC109. LA County does not have “the highest infection rate in the country.” It has the most cases of any county reporting nationwide but only if you don’t add up all the boroughs of NYC. That total would be multiple times LA’s. Remember there are something like 12 million residents of LA County. But I do agree with you that opening up to such risky encounters is a bad idea. Look at what has happened in AZ, AR, TX, FL and other early partying states.

  21. 420722 – you’ve been going to “all” of them and never seen one violation? I call BS, in a big way. Every time I go out and about in Goleta for groceries, etc, I see multiple violations. I was in a “high end” Mexican restaurant picking up dinner in Goleta on Tuesday and they had signs everywhere saying masks were required. Not a SINGLE patron inside wore a mask and everyone was clumped together at tables next to one another. The bartender was wearing it below his nose. Yeah, that’s just one example. Again, I call BS. You’re once again just trying to boast and it’s kind of silly.

  22. Same here! I’m not going out to eat right now. We are pushing reopening much too fast! I’m grateful for the places that offer to-go pick up food, and we have been doing that, but NO THANKS, to sit down service yet. It’s just not safe.

  23. SACJON, you are 100% correct in your assertation about conservatives. It’s all about money and me, me, me. Zero empathy. Let’s hope for a tremendous tidal wave of blue in November to save our country. We are sinking!

  24. Also, Fantastic Sam’s on the Mesa has been calling customers to alert them to a positive case of COVID there although it is unclear if it was a customer or employee. This information needs to be mandated and published regularly at this point – it will go a long way to stemming the spread. I hope they are closed until all employees are tested.
