I lived at that corner for a few years. Although I don’t know the particulars of this accident, it was quite scary to cross Olive/Laguna between 8-10 in the mornings, and in late afternoon. Lots of drivers coming down Laguna from the Roosevelt school side would just tap the brakes and keep going through the stop sign, and have enough momentum that stopping for a pedestrian would be tough.
That is a "problem" intersection.... Who has the right-of-way??? YES, the car on your right, but there's a lot of "cars to the right" at that intersection !!! I just play it safe, and let any car go first.... flag them to go ahead! ps- was that Ashleigh Brillant that got hit? Not sure which street he was hit.
If ever an intersection needed a roundabout in SB, this is the one. Five streets intersect here, which makes it a nightmare for pedestrians. Several years back a high-school "kid" ran over ad badly injured an elderly pedestrian in this puzzle of an intersection (albeit, the pedestrian was wearing headphones and not paying any attention when he stepped into the street). Maybe install blinking cross-walk lights like they've done at Islay/State and Pedregosa/State. And does anyone know why those yellow cross-walk lights cannot be changed to red?
