A pedestrian has been struck and killed by a passing Amtrak train in Santa Barbara on Friday. This is the third time a pedestrian has been struck by a train in Santa Barbara this month.

On February 13, 2026, at approximately 5:48 PM, officers from the Santa Barbara Police Department were dispatched to the area of the 1800 block of East Cabrillo Boulevard for a report of a pedestrian struck by an Amtrak train.

Santa Barbara Police officers, along with Santa Barbara City Fire Department personnel and paramedics, responded to the scene and located an unidentified adult male pedestrian suffering from significant traumatic injuries on the south side of the train tracks.

Life-saving measures, including CPR, were performed prior to the individual being transported by ambulance to Cottage Hospital. Despite the efforts of first responders and hospital staff, the male succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, the police department states.

The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin.

Three days prior, an adult male was struck by a train near Lookout Park in Summerland. The male sustained major injuries and was transported to the hospital. His condition is unknown at this time.

On February 1, another adult male was struck by a train near Milpas Street in Santa Barbara and was pronounced dead at the scene.

  1. Sad. The train is not at street level there so it sounds like someone might have been walking in the tracks. There is a sharp curve of the tracks just to the east of that spot so the train is upon you with very little visual notice. I almost got hit by a train there as a kid while exploring near the bird refuge. I heard the horn just moments before impact and jumped out of the way.
