Pedestrian Identified in Fatal Collision on Cathedral Oaks

Update by Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office
November 17, 2020

At 8:36 p.m. on Friday, November 13th, Sheriff’s deputies, County Fire and AMR personnel responded to the 6800-block of Cathedral Oaks Rd, between Los Carneros Rd and Glen Annie Rd, on a report that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle. Within minutes of arriving on scene first responders pronounced the pedestrian, identified as 45-year-old Travis Gottlob of Santa Barbara, deceased.

Based on the initial stages of the investigation, investigators believe that Gottlob was walking within the lane of traffic on Cathedral Oaks Rd when he was struck by a westbound Mazda Miata driven by a 23-year-old resident of Goleta. The driver of the Mazda was cooperative with investigators and was later released from the scene. The investigation is ongoing; however, it does not appear that drugs or alcohol were a factor with the driver of the Mazda. The Sheriff’s Coroner Bureau will conduct toxicology screening on Gottlob to determine if drugs or alcohol were in his system at the time of the collision. Cathedral Oaks Rd was closed for several hours while investigators with the Sheriff’s Major Accident Response Team collected evidence and conducted further investigation.

Anyone with information regarding this collision, or who may have had contact with Travis Gottlob on November 13th, is asked to contact Deputy Matthew Dawson at (805) 961-7519 or by email at mjd1267@sbsheriff.org.
