The pedestrian critically injured in a collision Friday at 100 W. Anapamu Street has died, according to the Santa Barbara Police Department.
She was identified as Teresa Garcia, 68, of Ventura.
The crash occurred around 5:20 p.m. on February 6, 2026. Police said Garcia was struck by a vehicle and sustained significant injuries.
First responders provided medical aid at the scene before transporting her to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries despite extensive efforts by medical staff.
Due to the seriousness of the incident, the Santa Barbara Police Department’s Traffic Enforcement Unit conducted the investigation, and the roadway was closed for several hours. The road reopened at 9:30 p.m. Friday.
Police said the involved driver was cooperative with officers and was evaluated for possible alcohol impairment; impairment was not a factor in the collision.
The investigation remains ongoing.

Any updates? The photo on Noozhawk below makes it look like the door was open, but that could have happened afterwards. California motorists have a bad habit of opening their doors without realizing they first have to be sure no motor vehicle or bicyclists is coming. I was almost killed that way many years ago. I hope we will hear an update on what actually happened.
