Santa Barbara County Fire Department crews rescued a paraglider from a coastal bluff in the More Mesa Open Space area on Saturday after a high-angle rope operation, officials said.
Firefighters responded around 3:00 p.m. on May 16 after reports that a person was approximately 20 feet over the side of the bluff. Initial information indicated the individual was a hang glider or paraglider.
Crews arrived on scene and conducted a technical rope rescue in the steep coastal terrain.
In an update, the department said the patient—a female paraglider—was safely retrieved and evaluated by paramedics. She sustained no injuries, reported no complaints, and was released at the scene without the need for transport.
Authorities had asked the public to avoid the area during the operation to allow emergency crews to work safely.
The incident was handled by Santa Barbara County Fire Department with assistance from partner agencies.

Really happy she’s okay. Good job, rescuers.
I have walked my dog along those bluffs and suffered mild acrophobia, just looking down onto the beach. It’s a long, l-o-n-g way down.
I saw the chopper and wondered if it was a rescue or a chase. Glad she wasn’t hurt.
