Packages Not Leaving USPS?

By an edhat reader

I am curious if anyone else in Santa Barbara/Goleta is having problems with packages sent through the mail not leaving Santa Barbara. I have at least two packages that are sitting in the Storke Rd. Post Office , that have been there since November 24 and have no additional scans or movement. I went to the Storke Road Post Office last week and was told my packages were not lost, they were sitting in the back room with THOUSANDS of other pieces of mail waiting to be sorted. They are still there today. What’s up with the Post Office? These were both Priority Mail 2-3 Day packages that should have reached their destination last month. I have put traces on both, called the Customer Service and Consumer Affairs office and…..nothing.

  1. A large envelope I sent Priority Mail sat for a month in Fresno, then finally moved on to its destination. That was June-August. I believe that was due to De Joy’s attempts to ruin the USPS for his financial gain. I just waited and it eventually worked out, but my package was not time sensitive. I wonder who Biden will appoint to repair the Postal Service. Has he said?

  2. The postal service is a shambles. The Trump appointee who leads the USPS cut back on overtime pay, hence the slowdown. I am an Amazon merchant, and I’ve never seen so many packages that have got lost in the mail somewhere, or been misdirected. Case in point: A package mailed at Patterson to a customer on De La Guerra went to LA, and sat at a processing center there for several days. Packages left at the loading dock aren’t being scanned, which is a problem if your hawking goods for Amazon, because those packages get marked as late shipments, which means you lose out when a package is lost. Amazon is merciless. They know there’s a problem with the USPS, but they don’t give a damn. Bezos boasts about how he can’t give his money away fast enough, but doesn’t hesitate to nickel and dime his sellers. Scumbag.

  3. Empirical Report: On the afternoon of December 9th I ordered an item through Amazon Prime.
You have to read from the bottom up to track the progress, delivered an hour ago. Interestingly, a postal service jitney pulled up outside my home just as the package was being delivered from another vehicle and they began to shift packages between the two vehicles, both loaded to the gills. Seems like they are doing yeoman service under difficult conditions.

  4. I’d suggest trying to get them back and using another carrier, but we’re in the same position with a UPS delivery. The tracking info shows the item got a label on 11/24, but still hasn’t shipped (and it was supposed to arrive today). The vendor says it’s behind because of covid. Since you’re dealing with the post office, have you considered contacting Salud Carbajal’s office? Maybe they can have some influence. A longshot, but worth a try.

  5. Oh, I have a package sitting there, 4 days overdue. This is part and parcel of the ramped-up threats to dismantle and privatize what has always been a unique SERVICE, envisioned before we were a nation: once a Cabinet level agency, that got moved in 1971 to the Executive branch. As an early Covid-19 response, Congress allocated $10B to shore up our Postal Service–but Guess Who’s Treasury Dept has held up the authorized funds without explanation. And then came Guess Who’s donor-buddy, Postmaster General DeJoy. Surprise, surprise, he and his wife Aldona Wos have multi-millions in assets from competitors (UPS) and contractors (trucker JB Hunt). Merry Christmas.

  6. Us older “birds” recall the horror of the common practice of “going postal”. Let’s leave Trump out of everything that goes wrong now because that is more of the same Hate. The truth is that Amazon is a preferred customer now because we are not shopping local as much. In Italy once we watched their postal service dumping mail into the Ocean. I asked the worker about this– translated: ” If it doesn’t get there the person sending it will complain and try again. There is too much mail now.”
The USPS has always had issues that are complex, and Mr. B found yet another way to deliver goods, using government “wage slaves” BTW: limiting overtime for a few means they hire more and spread out both the funding and delivery as well. Overtime means accidents go up as well. I am shocked by these dedicated people standing at dark postal areas–trying to sort mail into boxes–Let’s lighten up and give them some light while they sort to help them! The need for overtime means the need for more temp workforce– it will only get worse this holiday season with COVID State restrictions and massive shipping demands.
