On 09/30/25, detectives with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Bureau arrested Eddie Alfredo Cortez for felony violations of PC 261(a)(3) – Rape of an Intoxicated Person; and PC 209(b)(1) – Kidnapping with the Intent to Commit Rape.
Earlier in the month, on 09/11/25, deputies with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Headquarters Station spoke to a victim who reported being sexually assaulted by Cortez. Detectives with the Sexual Assault Unit followed up and learned Cortez had contacted the victim via social media before their first meeting in person. Cortez drove the victim to the area of the 100 block of Island View Drive in the unincorporated area of Oxnard, where they drank alcoholic beverages provided by Cortez. The victim soon began experiencing nausea, dizziness, and loss of motor function. Cortez then sexually assaulted the victim, who was incapacitated and unable to consent.
Detectives conducted a thorough follow-up investigation and obtained numerous items of evidence that corroborated the victim’s statements and established probable cause that Cortez committed multiple sexual assault violations. On 09/30/25, detectives located Cortez and arrested him for felony violations of PC 261(a)(3) – Rape of an Intoxicated Person; and PC 209(b)(1) – Kidnapping with the Intent to Commit Rape. After his arrest, detectives served search warrants at numerous locations, obtaining additional evidence related to the investigation.
Cortez was booked at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility with bail set at $500,000. Cortez is currently in custody, and his next court date is scheduled for 10/13/25 at 1:30 PM at the Ventura County Superior Court.
The investigation is currently ongoing, and evidence obtained thus far leads investigators to believe there may be additional victims. Anyone with information regarding Eddie Alfredo Cortez or this case is encouraged to contact Detective Mitchell Peterson at mitchell.peterson@
