On March 1, 2023, at 8:00pm, the Santa Barbara Police Department Special Investigations Unit seized drugs with a street value of over $130,000.
The deadly drugs were seized during a search warrant at a local Santa Barbara motel after a month-long investigation into drug sales in the City. Taken off the streets as a result of this investigation were: eleven pounds of Crystal Methamphetamine, 10 pounds of Fentanyl, a large amount of cash and a firearm. The Santa Barbara Police Department has a strong enforcement posture when it comes to fentanyl enforcement.
This is an ongoing investigation with no further information available at this time.

Big time drug dealer that mov d in next door was selling everything and lots of it…the lead detective did nothing and showed no interest…she did this with impunity. The owner couldn’t believe how disinterested the detective was….he had to hire a private detective!
Thank you law enforcement! Let’s hope for a persistent and consistent focus on removing this scourge from our community. I know it seems like a lost cause sometimes… But, it’s not!
Would have been instructive to know WHICH motel they had holed up in as their distribution hub. Wouldn’t happen to be one given free to the bums to live in would it? Wouldn’t want to reveal that data if it would compromise the wisdom of such Government facilitation of negative lifestyles.

4:32. I agree that the name/location of the motel should be given. miramar? bacara? If we don’t know that information, all motels are suspect.
LUCKY – Not many “bums” carry around that amount of drugs, money and cash. So much assumption here.
AWARE – I’d be very surprised if a law enforcement detective “did nothing” with information of the type they were provided. I suspect all a private detective can do is conduct a surveillance (that could compromise an ongoing police surveillance) based on the initial report. They have no authority to conduct any “buy’s” or detain anyone leaving the residence. What did the private detective report?
My neighborhood in the eastside has multiple drug dealers that are usually on bikes but sometimes on foot with a backpack and a phone in hand. They go from house to house or sometimes street corner and don’t even try to hide what they are doing.
Years ago in the late 90s I reported a drug dealer along with his address to a SB Police detective that worked those issues. I was shocked at the response which was, “If we go and bust this guy, five more guys like him will come up from LA and take his place. Not much we can do about it.” It was almost like he was irritated I had given him the info.
Was talking to an S.B. Sheriffs Officer the other day, he said there were (3) overdoses per day in Santa Barbara that require medical intervention. These events are not reported.

10 pounds of technical fentanyl could kill everyone in Santa Barbara. Really? 10 pounds?

10 pounds of this stuff can kill 2,267,962 people. Here’s the math:
Milligrams in 1 lb = 453592.4 mg x 10 lbs = 4,535,924 / 2mg = 2,267,962
