Open Console Day at the Arlington Theatre

By Joe DeLise
Open Console day at the Arlington Theater Saturday morning. Although I can't play any instrument, thankfully this gentleman did and he certainly demonstrated what this musical piece of local history can do! Special thanks to George & Ben! Looking forward to Silent Movie nights at the Arlington!

May 19, 2022 07:58 AMThank you for attending and for the nice comments.
It has been a labor of love keeping that magnificent instrument running. It has over 7000 moving parts, and is one of five theatre organs in the world where everything works. When something breaks, we have to make a new part.
Over 37000 volunteer hours have been spent in its restoration and maintenance since it was acquired in 1986 from Loews Jersey City Theatre. It was built in 1928.
With covid, SBTOS has not had an open console for over two years. We hope to resume our monthly second Saturday 9-11 AM events. Sometimes the theatre has a conflicting event, so we reschedule to the next Saturday. Please check the SBTOS website at SBTOS.ORG for the events calendar.
We hope to see you next month.
In the past, we have collaborated with the Santa Barbara International Film Festival to put on a free silent movie with live theatre organ accompaniment during the festival. Unfortunately, that event didn't occur this year.
President, SBTOS
