One Injured in Shooting Near Eucalyptus Hill

11:00 p.m., March 29, 2021

On March 29, 2021 at about 1720 hours the City of Santa Barbara Combined Communications Center received several 911 calls reporting possible gunshots heard on Eucalyptus Hill Road near Salinas Street. Additional 911 calls came in simultaneously reporting a vehicle collision into a tree causing the vehicle to catch on fire. Multiple police and fire resources were sent to the area.
 
Upon arrival Officers found an adult male victim who sustained significant injury inside the vehicle that had collided into a tree. The victim, an out of County resident, was transported to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in critical condition. Officers were able to confirm that shots had been fired in the immediate area with potential suspect or suspects still remaining near the location.
 
The Santa Barbara Police Department SWAT and Crisis Negotiation Response Teams responded. With the assistance of the Santa Barbara Sheriff Department helicopter and K9 units, the SWAT team conducted a thorough search for public safety and have determined the area to be safe at this time. The previous shelter in place order was lifted for the area by 11:00 pm.
 
This is an on-going investigation and the circumstances suggest that it was not a random act of violence. The Santa Barbara Police Department Criminal Investigations team was called in to investigate this incident.
