A semi-truck crashed off Highway 101 southbound near Tajiguas in Goleta on Saturday evening.
At 8:03 p.m., Santa Barbara County firefighters responded to the area, just south of Tajiguas, and discovered a semi-truck with a large trailer had crashed into an embankment and was blocking the number one southbound lane.
Crews discovered the solo male occupant of the truck had lost control before it crashed. He sustained major injuries and was transported to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in critical condition.
The semi-truck leaked approximately 20 gallons of diesel fuel in an area that could possibly drain to waterway into the ocean.
The U.S. Coast Guard and California Department of Fish & Wildlife were contacted to assess the scene.
There was a partial closure of southbound lanes on Highway 101 that reopened within a few hours. There were no other injuries or vehicles involved in the crash.
California Highway Patrol is investigating.
