There's a very informative article from The Atlantic about how the pandemic is progressing, and what strategies used by various countries made the most impact:

It might be useful for people to understand exactly what the 'underlying medical conditions' were . The phrase doesn't tell much of value to people with a myriad of chronic conditions, or even one specific condition.

I don't think you understand the severity of the pandemic.
Do you think over 200,000 deaths in the USA alone are faked?
International death totals are faked?
Other countries are in on the conspiracy?
Too little thinking behind such a comment.

Prove to me that over 200,000 people died of covid and not their underlying condition. Over 70 could mean 99 years old in hospice with cancer and days to live yet they got counted for “covid”. Yes, I believe the numbers have been exaggerated. Many corporations made big money off of this scam err I mean pandemic.

420722, please look at the excess mortality statistics to see how many more people have died this year than usual. And consider that underlying conditions may increase one’s susceptibility to Covid, but not kill directly. Like obesity, which afflicts about 40% of adult Americans.

Keep believing whatever narrative fits your ideology. You have absolutely no understanding of what the term co-morbidity means, nor do you understand anything about death certificates. The total mortality rate for all causes of death are way up, meaning not only did 200,000 die from Covid, thousands more than usual have died from things like dementia, heart disease, etc. This means that Covid deaths are likely being underreported. Also, if you want to complain about people making money off of Covid maybe go look to all your Senators who ditched stock in February or voted for multiple stimulus bills to travel industries while refusing to bring a relief package to the floor that might actually help the American people.

CDC website recently reported less than 10,000 deaths were listed solely as "covid" on the death certificate. This puts the other 190,000 alleged covid deaths in question since they were co-morbid covid deaths. Waiting for further data analysis, as well as comparison with annual mortality rates for the more standard causes of death. Did people die at the same rates from heart disease, cancer, pulmonary or the other myriad of causes of death, plus this year had additional covid deaths? Or did they get listed this year as covid deaths and did not show up as the standard averages for heart disease, cancer, etc. deaths. One will only learn the real numbers by looking back. But unfortunately we reacted by looking forward, based upon some highly flawed and now discredited models. The real story with data has yet to be published.

We can look back to just the recent months: how many “excess deaths” or how much “excess mortality” have we had so far this year, compared to historical averages? It is clear that significantly more people have died this year than usual. This strongly undermines the idea that all these people with underlying conditions would have died anyway.

That is like asking what underlying health conditions the Jews had during the holocaust. Questions like yours show why nativism/populism don't work.

Forget covid counting. Just look at excess death certificates. As of April 87000 excess deaths had occurred compared to 2019, with only 57,000 reported as Covid cases. That implies the excess deaths now are more than 300,000 based on the reported Covid number of 207,000. April data from a JAMA article.

People confuse correlation with causation. It means covid and underlying conditions are associated, not that one causes the other. If someone has an underlying condition and covid they are more likely to die.
