Old Trolley Tracks?
By Patti Gutshall
Are these old trolley tracks they are pulling up for the Desal Water Project? This pile is at Pedregosa and Garden, across from the Castle House.

Jan 06, 2022 05:43 AMInteresting! Maybe there is more History showing here? Would that pattern of “off set” squares that show, be places for horses to get traction to pull a trolley?

Jan 04, 2022 03:27 PMVery cool. I assume those tracks continued up APS to the streetcar stop shelter/memorial currently at the intersection of Pedregosa and APS? The bronze plaque there says the streetcar shelter was built in 1913.

Jan 06, 2022 01:25 PMAccording to the book, "Mule Car and Trolley, The Story of the Santa Barbara Street Railway", by Everett and Coombs, you are correct. Going the other way from Pedregosa and Garden, the tracks continued south on Garden to Victoria, then west to State Street. From Victoria and State there was a branch to Cottage Hospital. The main branch went down State Street to the ocean.

Jan 04, 2022 03:08 PMWe saved some of the spikes from the tracks that they pulled up when we did the State Street bridge near Cabrillo. You can tell the difference as they are smaller than RR spikes that come from Union Pacific ones.
