This is for all of you that have California Oak moths swarming in your neighborhood.

Who you thought moved in next door.

Who they turned out to be.

I took the above picture when I spotted it on our living room window. The below mug shots are after I captured one and put it in an acrylic box.

Oak Moth or Not?

It's too bad that Nature didn't make them yummy to some variety of bird. What a feast it could be!

"Oak moths and their caterpillars are food to many native birds. The list includes many of our favorite garden birds such as Western Bluebirds, American Robins, Bullock's Orioles, and Yellow-rumped Warblers. (source: SonomaCountyGazette, "Coast Live Oak and Birds" by Lisa Hug. 2019)

My yard is buzzing with Oak Moths. City’s historic office won’t allow a screen door so I’ve got them in my unit too.

That kqed.org/science link isn't working. Not w/ copy and paste either.

I’m using an old Mac with OS Yosemite. I was able to connect using this link with Firefox, Safari, and Chrome. Keep trying.

Interesting, I tried it on a Mac and and iPad, using Safari, Brave and Firefox on each, and none of them could load the KQED page. I'll try my wife's new Mac tomorrow.

Great photos. Fortunately, (for now) the wind has blown the moths away from our house.
