Sheriff’s Office Custody staff and their Wellpath healthcare partners have cleared 5 of the inmate Covid cases at the Northern Branch Jail (NBJ). Since our last press release on Friday, January 25, 2022, testing has been ongoing and there have been no additional Covid positive inmates detected in the NBJ inmate population. Five of the previously reported Covid positive inmates have recovered, and 1 Covid positive inmate was transferred to the Main Jail.

There are 5 remaining Covid positive inmates in the NBJ.

Custody staff are working with our Wellpath healthcare partners to monitor and care for the 5 remaining Covid positive inmates. They are rehoused and isolated in a separate housing area. The Sheriff’s Office is also coordinating with the Santa Barbara Court and the Public Defender’s Office to adjust court appearances to prevent the spread of the virus through the movement of inmates. In addition, all staff, contractors, vendors, and others who work in positions having direct inmate contact are regularly tested and required to wear an N95 mask while working.

What super comforting news... "The Sheriff’s Office will continue to provide regular updates on the status of COVID-19 in the Santa Barbara County jails.", how's about making an attempt at "Discovery"?

Apparently this little tidbit was omitted:
"The county held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the 376-bed Northern Branch Jail facility in November but it had never been occupied until Saturday. "

Is that your way of saying that you're impressed or proud of what's going on? Just because you don't agree with me doesn't mean that I need to go elsewhere...

I'm so glad the Sheriff finally has an empty jail in North County that went millions over budget. Such an essential community resource!

At this point in the pandemic, years on, what on earth is the purpose of these posts? Are we employing someone in the Sheriff's department for the purpose of reporting on COVID?? We are so far past that. We don't need to pay someone to write multi-paragraph jail COVID updates that reiterate how they're dealing with it, in slightly different wording each time. If you absolutely must, put a basic table on the Sheriff website with a case count. That's it. It's that simple. That's all people "need" to know.

This is a waste of taxpayer money.
