Sheriff’s Office Custody staff and their Wellpath healthcare partners have cleared all the inmate Covid cases at the Northern Branch Jail (NBJ). Since our last press release on Friday, February 4, 2022, testing has been ongoing, there have been no additional Covid positive inmates detected in the NBJ inmate population, and the five remaining Covid positive inmates have recovered.
The Sheriff’s Office will continue to provide regular updates on the status of Covid in the Santa Barbara County jails.

Sheriff’s Office Custody staff and their Wellpath healthcare partners have cleared 5 of the inmate Covid cases at the Northern Branch Jail (NBJ). Since our last press release on Friday, January 25, 2022, testing has been ongoing and there have been no additional Covid positive inmates detected in the NBJ inmate population. Five of the previously reported Covid positive inmates have recovered, and 1 Covid positive inmate was transferred to the Main Jail.
There are 5 remaining Covid positive inmates in the NBJ.
Custody staff are working with our Wellpath healthcare partners to monitor and care for the 5 remaining Covid positive inmates. They are rehoused and isolated in a separate housing area. The Sheriff’s Office is also coordinating with the Santa Barbara Court and the Public Defender’s Office to adjust court appearances to prevent the spread of the virus through the movement of inmates. In addition, all staff, contractors, vendors, and others who work in positions having direct inmate contact are regularly tested and required to wear an N95 mask while working.
The Sheriff’s Office will continue to provide regular updates on the status of Covid in the Santa Barbara County jails.

Sheriff’s Office Custody staff and their Wellpath healthcare partners have identified five additional inmates in the Northern Branch Jail (NBJ) who have tested positive for COVID-19. There are now 11 active COVID case at the NBJ, and all are asymptomatic.
The Northern Branch Jail was recently populated with 244 inmates who were transferred from the Main Jail. Prior to the transfer, all the inmates – and all transporting and receiving staff – tested negative for COVID-19. The transfer was conducted after consultation with the Public Health Department and in accordance with a Public Health Order. All the transferred inmates were quarantined and tested daily since their arrival. It was during this surveillance testing that the COVID-19 positive inmates were identified.
Custody staff are working with our Wellpath healthcare partners to monitor and care for the 11 inmates who tested positive. They have been rehoused and isolated in a separate housing area. The Sheriff’s Office is also coordinating with the Santa Barbara Court and the Public Defender’s Office to adjust court appearances to prevent the spread of the virus through the movement of inmates. Sheriff’s Office Custody staff and their Wellpath healthcare partners have identified six inmates in the Northern Branch Jail (NBJ) who have tested positive for COVID-19. On Sunday, January 23, 2022, two inmates tested positive. Three additional inmates were detected on Monday, January 24, 2022, and one more on Tuesday, January 25, 2022. All six of the inmates are asymptomatic.

Same old story… this isn’t news, it’s a disgrace!
Then why not frequent another comments section elsewhere?
Don’t click on an article you don’t want to read. Seems like fairly simple logic.
At this point in the pandemic, years on, what on earth is the purpose of these posts? Are we employing someone in the Sheriff’s department for the purpose of reporting on COVID?? We are so far past that. We don’t need to pay someone to write multi-paragraph jail COVID updates that reiterate how they’re dealing with it, in slightly different wording each time. If you absolutely must, put a basic table on the Sheriff website with a case count. That’s it. It’s that simple. That’s all people “need” to know.
This is a waste of taxpayer money.
