On our way back from the wildflowers on Figueroa Mountain on Monday we stopped by Solvang for lunch. We then continued on Alisal Road from Solvang to Nojoqui Falls Park.

Here are all of my photos!

The drive on Alisal Road is quite beautiful, with lichen-covered trees arched across the road. It is about 6.5 miles on Alisal road which takes about fifteen minutes

There were quite a few people out on this weekday afternoon

A sign explains it is just a ten minute walk to the falls. There are also warning signs to watch for falling rocks. This kind of signage is getting ever more common. I don't think there really is much risk on this trail.

The trail is quite lush and beautiful

It is a steady climb to the falls with some stairs along the way

There are a couple of stream crossings with bridges

Do be careful to stay on the trail as there is also some lush poison oak!

Sure enough, in just about ten minutes of walking we were at the Nojoqui Falls!

This man was photographing his wife and they kindly took photos of me as well

Here is my video of the falls. No, it is not Niagara Falls. But it is the most water I have seen at Nojoqui Falls!

More beautiful scenery on the walk back, including some hole-y trees!

"Nojoqui" comes from the Chumash placename Nahuwi, which conveys a reasonable semblance of the pronunciation. In the current spelling, the 'q' that causes so much confusion is probably a misreading of a 'g' in early Spanish documents; 'Nojogui' would be pronounced 'No-HO-wee.'

This article in the Lompoc Record says it is pronounced "NAH-ho-wee"
This article in the Independent says it is "naw-ho-wee"
Best wishes,

Hmmmm... I took that same hike a couple of weeks ago. There were SEVERAL danger signs instructing me to stay behind them and keep away from the falls. You must have taken a different path with no signs (sarcasm intended).

It is interesting that our governments put up warning signs about dangers that don't exist. But they do nothing to deal with the real threats to our survival like climate change.
