Protestors will return to public squares and streets on Saturday throughout the United States for a second round of the “No Kings” protest.

On October 18, it’s estimated that millions of Americans will show up at one of the 2,500 registered events with signs and flags for an anticipated nonviolent protest against the Trump Administration.

National organizers state the protests will celebrate free speech and the right to assemble, offering opportunities to speak out against the administration’s overreach on immigration enforcement and constitutional rights.

In Santa Barbara, the protest will begin with a rally at Alameda Park at noon on Saturday featuring speeches by Representative Salud Carbajal, State Assemblymember Gregg Hart, 805 UndocuFund Executive Director Primitiva Hernandez, Immigrant Legal Defense Center Executive Director Julissa Peña, and Planned Parenthood Community Organizer Anastasia Senavsky.

The rally will be followed by a march to De La Guerra Plaza. Those planning to attend are advised to arrive early, as a large crowd is anticipated.

“Nothing seems to bother President Trump more than the prospect of millions of Americans gathering in peaceful protest,” said Larry Behrendt, a member of Indivisible Santa Barbara’s Steering Committee. “And Trump loses his mind if we call him out for what he is: a wannabe dictator who exercises cruelty when compassion is called for, and serves billionaire cronies instead of ordinary people.”

Several other No Kings Protests are taking place throughout the Central Coast including , Carpinteria, Santa Ynez, Lompoc, Santa Maria, Arroyo Grande, San Luis Obispo, Cambria, Ventura, Fillmore, Thousand Oaks, and Simi Valley. More information about each event can be found here.

The first No Kings protest was held on June 14 with more than five million people across 50 states joining in the largest single-day protest to date against President Trump.

In Santa Barbara, organizers estimated 12,000 to 20,000 people at various times lined Cabrillo Blvd. From Milpas to Carrillo, thousands of locals waved upside-down American flags—a symbol of national distress—and displayed signs carrying messages such as “No Kings, No Idiots,” “Immigrants Make America Great,” and “If Kamala won, we’d be at brunch right now.”

Throughout the nation, Saturday’s turnout is expected to outpace its previous June protest with new dates and locations being added every day, according to organizers.

All of the No Kings protests are expected to adhere to a shared commitment of nonviolent protest and community safety. Organizers are trained in de-escalation and are working closely with local partners to ensure peaceful and powerful actions nationwide.

Locally, the downtown Santa Barbara protest is organized by Indivisible Santa Barbara, a non-profit organization that is part of the nationwide Indivisible movement, with a mission to elect progressive leaders, rebuild our democracy, and defeat the Trump agenda.

Jerry Roberts of Newsmakers recently interviewed local No Kings protest organizers on the upcoming event. Watch the interview here.

  1. Donald Trump and his merry band of n*zis are willfully completing the last bricks of Project 2025, destroying our Republic, and trampling the constitution. Time to peacefully have your voices heard.

The White House is checking ALL of the boxes:
    Powerful and continuing nationalism
    Disdain for human rights
Identification of enemies as a unifying cause
    Rampant sexism
    Controlled mass media
    Obsession with national security
    Religion and government intertwined
    Corporate power protected
    Labor power suppressed
Disdain for intellectual and the arts, attacks on universities
    Obsession with crime and punishment
    Rampant cronyism and corruption

    • Also, politicization of military – (coincidentally THIS WEEKEND) regarding highway and Amtrak Pacific Surfliner travel:

The LA Times said that Newsom’s office has received, but not confirmed, reports that live ordnance would be fired from offshore vessels during the Marine Corps’ 250th anniversary event. A military media advisory said the celebration called “Sea to Shore—A Review of Amphibious Strength” will include a live amphibious assault demonstration.

California Department of Transportation spokesman Edward Barrera told the paper that potential scenarios given by the federal government meant that it was preparing to shut down a section of the highway for the safety of California motorists.

This is expected to cause traffic gridlock at the time when multiple events related to the “No Kings” protest were planned across California on Friday and Saturday, including in the city of Oceanside adjacent to Camp Pendleton North.

Here’s what commuters need to know:
Amtrak Pacific Surfliner impacts: The service pause will halt Amtrak Pacific Surfliner trains between Orange County and San Diego County from noon to 3 p.m., officials said. Service is scheduled to resume Saturday evening.

It’s unclear what impact Saturday’s showcase will end up having on motorists traveling through the area. Initial reports indicated that the 5 Freeway between Orange County and San Diego may be closed to accommodate the event. However, in a news release posted on X, the Marines state that all training events will occur on approved training ranges and comply with established safety protocols. “No public highways or transportation routes will be closed.

The event, titled “America’s Marines 250: From Sea to Shore — A Review of Amphibious Strength,” will be attended by top officials from the Trump administration, including Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of War Pete Hegseth. The demonstration is expected to be recorded and used in a national primetime broadcast on Nov. 9.

      • The California Highway Patrol began closing a large swath of Interstate 5 Saturday due to lingering safety concerns over a planned live-fire demonstration at Camp Pendleton that will be witnessed by Vice President JD Vance and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, state authorities said.

Closures along northbound on-ramps to the freeway in Oceanside began to go into effect around 10:30 a.m., according to a CHP traffic incident log, and a full freeway closure from Harbor Drive to Basilone Road appeared to begin after 12:30 p.m. It will last until the end of the event, which is set to wrap around 3 p.m. with remarks from Vance.

State officials cited “extreme life safety risk” and sudden, loud explosions that could distract drivers, saying the closure decision comes at the recommendation of the California Highway Patrol.

  2. I’m looking forward to a big turnout, here and across the country. Just to counter a couple of desperate tropes from the AFP (American Fascist Party, formerly known as the GOP)
1: We are not paid protestors
2: This is the opposite of a “hate rally”
We will be there to show our love of Democracy and the American Experiment, our solidarity with our immigrant neighbors, and to show Donald Trump and his fascist clowns that we will never support their hateful agenda.

    • You’re assuming a lot. I personally know Dems, Independents, and former Trump voters who will join the protest. Once you see the Emperor has no clothes, and you recognize the man behind the Wizard’s curtain for what he really is, you can’t unsee or unknow it. But let’s talk more about awareness.

Are you aware that there’s a Constitution in America? If so, are you aware that this administration has violated it multiple times? Clearly, unequivocally, and boldly. That’s not patriotism, it’s literally anti-American.

Are you aware that the press corps at the Pentagon walked out en masse yesterday, including Fox, because they were ordered not to report anything the administration didn’t authorize? Freedom of speech is a founding right in America. To stifle that at the federal government level is anti-American.

Are you aware that the freedom to peacefully protest is a core right of every American? Any threats or attempts to stop or silence that right are anti-American.

Are you aware that the President is in the Epstein files, has referred to Jeffrey Epstein as “terrific guy” and said “He’s a lot of fun to be with”, and when pressed to release the files called the whole thing a hoax? But your main concern is that Kanaka Harris, who served as the elected Vice President, was appointed as the Democratic candidate? That’s your biggest concern with the government in this moment?

      Self reflection indeed.

      • For clarification: Kamala (not Kanaka) Harris was not “appointed” as the Democratic candidate … it’s not an office or other sort of position that can be appointed to. Biden endorsed her as a nominee, but she had to win the support of the DNC delegates, which she did in short order. She was certified via a virtual roll call (because the Democratic Convention would have been too late for her to qualify for some state ballots) on August 2, 2024. No appointment was involved–Zippy is a blatant serial liar, as these right wingers generally are.

    • lol whut. There are lot of people at the marches who didn’t vote, or voted for Jill. That’s a huge stretch you are making there. Also, I would have voted reluctantly for Biden, and 100% preferred voting for Harris. You guys acting like we didn’t “choose” her. Um, some of us actually did.

    • > voted for a candidate

Yes, we voted for a candidate. That’s how it works.

      > who was appointed.

Contradiction … people who are voted for are not appointed.

      > Talk about lack of self awareness.

      Indeed you have none.

  3. The protest on Saturday will certainly give Trump a huge personal boost and more of what he craves: attention. Imagine a person so depraved and evil that the thought of being hated makes them happy. Not only does it make The King happy, his cult followers are overjoyed when they deprive someone of their chance to go to brunch instead of shouting while holding a protest sign. The fear amongst the protest organizers across the country is that outside agitators will ruin the message using violence. Hopefully, the protest in SB won’t have any violence, but I think places like Seattle and Portland may have some issues. I pray that everyone remains peaceful and that LE does not have to intervene in any way.

  5. A huge exercise in futility but have at it. The signs are wrong. Immigrants ARE welcome. Illegals are NOT
Why do these people support illegal immigration?
I read CA taxpayers are going to be put on the hook for families living there whose spouses have been removed because of illegal status or that coupled with criminality.
Perhaps your elected officials could give the money to the homeowners who lost everything in the fires , and as of now, have not got any help. Charity begins at home. Take care of your fellow Americans and worry about those who have broken immigration law latter.

  6. I thought the last King ended in USA in 1776.

And the last Nutzis were defeated in 1945.

But i puzzled that such protests are so gender oriented.

Need a last Queen march. In case Hillary runs again.

So what was Joe Biden? The last Joker in the deck?

    The last demented in chief?

    • CREEKMOE – Words and thoughts can be hard, I get it. So here’s the thing – we don’t want another King so we’re saying “No Kings.” It’s really that simple. If we thought Trump was a king right now, we’d be saying stuff like “Down with the King” or something. Nope, we just do not want more kings or, to keep it simple for you…. “No Kings.”

The last Nazis? Um…. check the news. We still have a TON in our government. Well, only one side does but, you know… facts and such.

Gender oriented? Aside from the breasts, round hips and that NSFW neck Trump has, we’re pretty sure he identifies as a “man” so we use the word he would probably use: “King.” Hillary isn’t president nor is she a fascist who ran on the promise of terrorizing non-white people, demolition the 1st Amendment and going to war with his opposition (us).

Hey, tell you what though….. if she ever is elected and starts doing the crap Trump is doing, we’ll protest her as well! Heck, if ANYONE does this again, we’ll do it. Know why? Because the adults in the country put freedom and country over party. Not the the other way around like the simps and cucks who are letting Fatler run this country into the ground.

    • > I thought the last King ended in USA in 1776.

And we’re opposed to having another one.

      > And the last Nutzis were defeated in 1945.

What are the people with swastika tattoos who march in Unite the Right rallies carrying swastika-laden flags — you know, Trump’s “very fine people”? What about the AfD? What about the fellow at Jan 6 wearing a “Camp Auschwitz” hoodie, among many others?

Are you really this stupid and disingenuous? Do you really want to be known as being this stupid and disingenuous?

  7. I like this new route – it doesn’t foul up Cabrillo and the waterfront for those who want to enjoy the harbor and beach today. The marchers can hang downtown with the wild e-bikers and homeless folks at Alameda park. Ideal.
