Voter Information Guides in the Mail

Source: County of Santa Barbara

Joe Holland, County Clerk-Recorder-Assessor & Registrar of Voters announced that Santa Barbara County Voter Information Guides are currently being mailed to all registered voters who should start seeing them in their mailboxes in the next few days. State Voter Information Guides are also being mailed to households listing a registered voter.

The County Voter Information Guide (CVIG) is a sample ballot that can be used by the voter to mark their choices before they go to their polling place. The voter can take the sample ballot with them to mark their Official Ballot. This speeds up the voting process and helps reduce long lines on Election Day.

Information specific to the voter’s ballot includes candidates’ statements of qualifications and local measure information; and instructions and information on voting President, crossover voting, updating their registration, voting by mail and voting at the polls.

The voter’s polling place location is printed on the back cover of the CVIG, as is an application to vote by mail.

Vote by Mail ballots will be mailed to voters and be available at County Elections offices listed below starting February 3, 2020:

Santa Barbara – 4440-A Calle Real, Santa Barbara, CA 93110

Lompoc – 401 E. Cypress Ave, Room 102, Lompoc, CA 93436

Santa Maria – 511 E. Lakeside Parkway, Suite 134, Santa Maria, CA 93455

Important reminders:

  • Election Day is Tuesday, March 3, 2020;
  • This is a partisan election – Voters registered to vote with a political party, can ONLY vote for that party’s presidential candidates at the primary election.
  • Voters who are registered as No Party Preference can request to vote for one of these parties’ presidential candidates in the primary:
    • American Independent Party
    • Democratic Party
    • Libertarian Party

Voters who have already requested a vote by mail ballot and/or a crossover ballot do not need to reapply.  If a voter receives a ballot and chooses to change their party, they should contact the Elections Office for their options.

Though there are many third party websites of information, to ensure correct information, Holland encourages voters to contact his office directly for information on polling place locations, or any question as to why they are receiving a Vote by Mail ballot.

  1. Hopefully, the voters of the 3rd District of SB County retain Joan Hartmann who has protected the fragile environment and at the same time worked well with the Chumash & cannabis growers to establish harmony in the district. Go, Joan!

  2. I’m amused to see Mayor Murillo is already leveraging her position to run for Assembly. As much as I am more amused by the local Republican Party, our local politicians need more competition or we’ll just end up with professional fundraisers, self-promoters, and ribbon cutters on the public payroll.

  3. If the Republican party has anything to do with it you can kiss off all voters getting the materials. Look what they attempt in almost all other states and “SAD”ly get away with it until caught & hauled into court, but by that time it’s too late.

  4. My concern is that the DNC is going to bend Bernie over again, then throw him under the bus. They did it last time, and this time he IS definitely surging and collecting lots of $$$ and supporters. Goodness sakes what will happen if that happens once again.

  5. Agree 100% with this take however its already happening in my opinion…Why do you think Pelosi held the impeachment articles till after the new year? It was to give Biden head start in Iowa while it Sanders is stuck behind a desk in the Senate. DNC is gonna burn Bernie once again!

  6. @ 1:55pm. Yes worked really well giving in. Doreen and Peter worked really hard on the ad hoc committee dealing with Camp 4. Das and Joan came in and wiped out all that hard work. The County will now lose millions of dollars a year from potential property taxes on camp 4 development. I really like Joan, she is very approachable and intelligent, but she did not act in the best interests of the county or residents in the camp 4 deal. During her campaign she promised to continue the dialog with the tribe and fight the fee to trust application.

  7. I think the snafu of “eligible voters” not receiving their ballots last time was because of the district elections. Many people thought they should be getting ballots, but in actuality it wasn’t their turn to vote.

  8. It’s next to impossible to convince prepared, qualified candidates to run when elections and candidates are controlled by local Democrat Party Machine. Young candidates under 45 are sought to be puppets of the machine.

  9. 16 year olds are registered in high school class statewide without parental knowledge. Close to 100% register Democrat. Every person who registers in class or at DMV is mailed a ballot (at age 18 years). The SB County Grand Jury Report confirms UCSB & SBCC students are registered to vote twice, non citizens vote. Why? The Secretary of State and County Registrar Joe Holland’s Office both confirm, if you register, you get a ballot (or two) because there is no legal Authority or funding for any entity to ENFORCE voting law. Besides in our sanctuary state of top-vote getters there is no party nominated position on the ballot EXCEPT FOR US PRESIDENT. It is unlawful, subject to a 3-year felony for a non-US Citizen to vote for a party nominated office: POTUS. Who monitors US Elections? No one. Grand Jury has no AUTHORITY to pursue its findings. State legislators like non-citizens votings. Federal legislators refuse to adopt voter ID laws because they know Courts will overturn for violation of privacy; and like Real ID, anybody can get one. Real ID is just another way for government to get money: fee or tax it consumes wealth, workers create.
Yep, GO VOTE! Then budget a few hours a week to civic volunteering to hold government accountability.

  10. The courageously informed Republican Candidate for Assembly Charlie Cole is running to help stop endorsed Radical Socialist and SBCC Trustee Jonathan Abboud (Local DEm Central Committee machine choice, endorsed by Democratic Socialists of America, with pending endorsement from AOC’s Justice Democrats — which has endorsed its co-founder & Young Turk Broadcaster Cenk Uyger in nearby Santa Clarita. The only way to inform the public of this dangerous rising politician and the irreversible take-over of California is with a microphone and audience. Follow Lebanonese Abboud’s past posts on FB. One of Abboud’s goals is to make Americans who support the Constitution and American traditions “politically irrelevant”. Sup Das Williams had his chief of staff Darcel Elliott working FT at UCSB to deliver to Abboud its 10,000 Registered student votes, some are dual registered students voting both at school and home county. Young GOP Candidate Charles Cole has a purpose and message. Support him as he sounds the alarm of what’s happening locally and in single-party CA? (Aren’t single party countries usually Communist ones?)

  11. While I am not in the 3d District, the claim that she “worked well” with the Chumash is disconcerting. Did she simply give them more of what they want? Every time I drive up that highway I see new concrete being poured and big foundations for big buildings near the casino. Santa Ynez is going to be nothing but Las Vegas type ugliness very soon.

  12. Just checked the mailer for my polling place location : Casa De Los Carneros ??? where is 10 Longshore Pl. ??? Oh, looks on my map that it is next to the railroad tracks in an industrial area. Is this going to be easy to get to? Is this a safe area? Can I use public trans to get there? Must I vote by mail and not see another voter in person? Do I need to speak spanish to get into the Casa? I like the personal touch and I will try to get to Longshore. If you like the personal touch and want to meet another voter, I will be happy to say hello at our polling place when I can get there!

  13. Contact the UN. In CA voting is broken: it’s all comers, coerced vote by mail, and there’s zip, nada, no oversight or enforcement. Vote twice, toss ballots, change precinct locations, allow and encourage non citizens to vote. Who cares anymore?

  14. What 8:55 says is pretty much true. It’s common knowledge that high school students are pre-registered in classrooms and then receive ballots upon their 18th birthday. It’s unlikely that a person this age would opt out of this activity in front of their peers (raised hand, “Teacher, I can’t participate because I’m not a citizen!”) And then there’s the DMV. Yep, they make lots of mistakes. And nobody checks. Believe it. Better yet, do your own research.
