The Santa Barbara County Public Health Department (PHD) is reporting two COVID-19 deaths and 51 new cases on Wednesday.
One resident was over 70 years of age and one resident was between the ages of 30-49. Both residents resided in the City of Santa Maria and had underlying health conditions.
The total case count is now 8,550 with 231 of those currently infectious.
There are 39 hospitalizations including 13 in the intensive care unit (ICU).

Cottage Health-Specific Data
- Cottage Health is caring for a total of 251 patients across all campuses.
- 188 are acute care patients; 200 acute care beds remain available.
- Of the 188 acute care patients, 7 patients are on ventilators. 83 ventilators remain available (adult, pediatric and neonatal ventilators).
- Of the 188 acute care patients, 12 are in isolation with COVID-19 symptoms; 12 are confirmed COVID-19 positive.
- Of the 12 patients in isolation, 2 patients are in critical care.
- From August 24-30:
2,031 COVID-19 laboratory tests were collected by Cottage Health.
Results: 77 positive, 1,953 negative, 1 pending
- From August 31-Sept 6:
1,835 COVID-19 laboratory tests were collected by Cottage Health.
Results: 46 positive, 1,683 negative, 106 pending
Anyone catch the news the the orange guy in the White House intentionally downplayed the virus? My guess is that’s one of the reasons that the disease is widespread here and we won’t be getting out of the purple zone anytime soon. Winter is coming and we have seen the results of local college students behaving badly, schools reopening or all the holiday get-togethers from now through next year. It’s all so disappointing.

@ LOCALINSB that’s one of the PRIMARY reasons we’re in this mess. Had he been honest and straightforward about the risk and what we need to do to protect ourselves, you know like a president, we’d have started nipping this in the bud a long time ago. Imagine if his followers thought the virus was real from the get go? Imagine if we didn’t spend months and months with 1/3 of American’s convinced this was a hoax and no worse than the flu? His flock listens to him. If he would have said back in February or March to take it seriously, mask up, etc etc and NOT told them it was just a “liberal hoax,” we’d be in a completely different situation than we are now. This mess is 100% his fault. He KNEW it was deadly and chose to downplay it. He alone is responsible for most of those deaths. He’s definitely for all those deaths at Sturgis, Florida, Texas, and everywhere else that Republicans have ignored this deadly virus because their leader told them to. Trump killed them. He needs to be held accountable.

This was the President of our country downplaying it even when he KNEW it was deadly and more dangerous than the flu. HE LIED to his followers. He told them over and over again for months and months not to wear masks, not to worry, it’s just a hoax, it’s no worse than the flu, go back to work, back to church, etc etc etc – he freaking LIED and people DIED.
