Tree Removal Near Peabody Stadium

By an edhat reader

The SB High School “stadium improvement project” includes killing most of the trees (176 trees) currently surrounding the stadium, including mature California Oaks and an extensive grove of mature Eucalyptus trees, one of the few remaining intact groves in Santa Barbara.

These trees are home to wildlife including Red-tailed hawks, yellow-rumped warblers, owls, Cooper’s hawks, hummingbirds, Monarch butterflies and other living things, according to the Dudek Co. study/report assessing the environmental impacts of the project. Mature trees also clean the air, prevent erosion, provide shade, moderate summer heat through respiration, and help to retain moisture in the soil.
