The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office is conducting an investigation into an incident involving a Lompoc Unified School District bus. At approximately 3:00 p.m. today, a bus carrying approximately 20 to 30 Cabrillo High School students was heading northbound on Rucker Road from Burton Mesa Road when it was struck by what appears to be several BB or Pellet shots. One of the shots struck a passenger window located midway on the bus. The projectiles shattered the window but did not penetrate it. Fortunately, no one was injured during the incident. The bus driver drove several blocks away and pulled over in the 1500 block of Calle Lindero.

Sheriff’s Deputies, Lompoc Police Department Officers and California Highway Patrol Officers responded to the scene. The students were safely escorted off the bus and interviewed by deputies. With the assistance of the Lompoc Unified School District, all students were accounted for and safely returned to their homes and families. Sheriff’s detectives responded to the scene to investigate the origin of the shots. Detectives canvassed the area, walking door to door looking for supect(s), witnesses and potential leads.

  1. To Feb 23, 2018 05:30 PM : What hysteria? The concern about students being shot? Anyone stupid enough to shoot out the window of a school bus full of kids could also be stupid enough to do something worse. You sound like a sick person to belittle any concern for children being shot at, regardless the weapon.
