Search & Rescue Hosts Open House for 60th Anniversary

By Santa Barbara County Search & Rescue (SBCSAR)

[On Saturday], SBCSAR held its 60 year anniversary open house for the community. The event was a great success and many community members joined us for lunch and the festivities.

Early on during the open house event, the team also had a callout for service at Hot Springs Trail for an injured female that had slipped on the trail and injured her arm.

SBCSAR responded along with Montecito Fire and AMR to the access road that leads up to the top of the trail. Fire teams made first contact with the patient and began treatment of her injuries. Teams walked the patient out to a SAR vehicle for transport down to the trailhead and to the waiting AMR ambulance for transport to Cottage Hospital. SAR teams debriefed with fire and returned to service and the open house.

At 8:30pm, SBCSAR was activated by the 911 emergency dispatch center for a lost hiker in the Lizard’s Mouth recreational area. The hiker had gone for a hike before sunset and became disoriented with the sun setting and unsure of the path back out to the road. SBCSAR responded with two field teams and a UAV to provide overwatch and route finding to assist the field teams in getting the hiker out. Teams successfully completed the call, returned the hiker to their car and all teams returned to service.
