Schneider to Host Community Vigil After Vegas Shooting

Source: Santa Barbara Response Network (SBRN)

(Santa Barbara, CA) When a traumatic event strikes, there is a collective impact of pain, loss, and anxiety that trickles down and has lasting psychological effects.

Many people are troubled by the recent violence in Las Vegas and in need of hope and connection during these difficult times. They need to feel they are not alone!

The Santa Barbara Response Network, (SBRN) a local trauma response team, is hosting a community healing vigil on Monday night at 6PM to process and heal in the aftermath of this tragedy.  Mayor Helene Schneider will lead the evening’s vigil.

Let us resist violence and alienation with compassion and connection.

Monday, October 9 at 6pm Unitarian Society (Sanctuary)

  1. I don’t think you quite understand what RLJ is saying, which is not shameful as you have accused. What IS shameful is when politicians use these all-to-common tragedies solely for the purpose of promoting themselves, themselves, and themselves. My guess is that the protest that Mayor Schneider is “hosting” as a “vigil” will have nothing to do with the victims, and everything to do with her political leanings. I wish she would concentrate on the job at hand as there’s more than enough locally for her to do rather than protest at every turn in the road.

  2. “Let us resist violence and alienation with compassion and connection.” …….Why doesn’t Schneider do something for the City of Santa Barbara like as she’s supposed to do? Compassion and connection: How about having compassion and connecting with those who you are supposed serve or does that not provide an acceptable photo op for you? “Remember when Mayor Schneider helped the less fortunate, fed the hungry, helped someone without a photo being taken or wine being served?” No….I do not remember any of those things. Hal, I hope you are listening.

  3. Garth – what better time to attempt to do something, anything about gun control in our country? Do we wait until there is no violence? No, tragedies like this are the very reason we need to do something, anything to address the issues that arise when you allow weapons such as these to be sold to civilians.

  4. Probably because as much as you feel like those comments are heartless, they are free speech which is still legal as far as I know and some of us are getting tired of all the PC wankers wagging fingers at every thing said that doesn’t fit their own agenda. That’s just one theory…
