Scanner Reports 9-25-17

I always wanted to live in a big house with a lot of friends. I thought that would be really cool, like the movie, The Hunter, with Steve McQueen where he plays Ralph “Papa” Thorson, the Bounty Hunter. One of his better movies, in the book of Roger. I kinda got my wish when I moved to my last place on South Milpas. I got the smallest place on the property, but there were several other cottages too where others lived. We have our own little community. I remember praying for it, “God, just find me a homey little shithole to live in, it’s all I want. Just a little shithole. Amen.” Not too long after that, here I am. I was here a couple days before anyone talked to me. Gentleman Jim took me around to meet everyone. Isabelle and Jerry were first. Isabelle was 88 years old, lived in the front house with her husband, Jerry. He was bedridden from a stroke, and Isabelle, along with a caregiver, took care of him. Isabelle was Spanish, she was from New Mexico. Jerry’s Father had been President of Mexico. They lived in San Antonio before moving here to Santa Barbara back in 1971. Along with them they bought a small pecan tree. The tree is still here, about 70 feet tall. In his hey-day, Jerry had been an extra in the movies; many with John Wayne, including The Alamo. After they moved here, Isabelle, who spent 20 years in the US Air Force, managed a department store and a motel, retiring sometime in the ‘80s. Cal lived next door, and was part owner of Taylor’s Moving. A gal named Laura, next to me, then Jim, Mark, and a small group of youngsters in the back. Isabelle and I became good friends, though unlikely. An 88 year-old woman and 40 year-old man. Whenever I’d be getting good and drunk with my sidekick Belinda, we’d always pick up a 24 ouncer of Budweiser for Isabelle, and she’d sneak back here and party with us. Most of the Community here partied, which was nice. We didn’t have to go nowhere and party, we had it all right here. Every once in a while, Isabelle, who me and Belinda called Izzy from the movie Fried Green Tomatoes (she hated being called Izzy), would cook up some vittles; my favorite Mexican spaghetti, which was spaghetti with chilies, yummy! Another thing she did is cook up a turkey, right in the middle of summer. We all shared our holidays together. We would always buy a couple turkeys for the holidays and she’s have an extra for the summer. She’d never tell us what day it was gonna be, just one day right out of the blue she’d surprise everyone with the turkey. I sure miss my good old friends. Every once in a while, another couple that lives here now reminds me of Isabelle’s kindness. Seems when I’m down on my luck with only a buck, Liz and Paco go out and buy me one of those chickens with all the trimmings. They did it the other night. It bought back sweet memories as Liz looks a lot like Isabelle though younger. Sometimes I wonder if I’m in Heaven on Earth.

• West College at “I” Street, a vehicle vs pedestrian accident.
• Vehicle accident on the Stow overpass.
• Camper in the 1500 block of State Street.
• Three vehicle accident at Lompoc High School, 3 patients.
• Subject somehow got locked behind a gate, possibly in a stairwell. Had to call 911 to be let out, 800 block of State Street.
• Burglary to a residence in the 6500 block of Del Playa.
• Two year-old riding in a car without a car seat, 100 block of East Anapamu.
• A SBPD Officer was transporting a subject in his car to Cottage Hospital for a 5150 Hold.
• Domestic in the area of Sprouts, 175 North Fairview by Station 14. The parties ran away before the police got there.
• Domestic 600 block of Patterson Road, child yelling, SBSO responded caught up with all of them, sounded like the kid did not want to be with the parents.
• Death at Cottage ER, rest in peace.
• Medical call for a head injury, 300 block of Nopal.
• Theft of a bicycle from the Rescue Mission, 535 East Yanonali.
• Highway One at Highway 135, vehicle accident, vehicle on its side.
• Naked Dumpster Man is home in his dumpster next to the Marc Residence, 3885 State Street. What they should do is give that man some furniture and run an extension cord out to him.
• Broke down RV in the Carrillo underpass, reporting party reports a body underneath the RV. The RV was broke down, but there was nobody underneath it.
• Highway 101 just South of Palmer, solo vehicle rollover.
• 400 block of West North, assault victim.
• Open flames on a hillside, 500 block of Scenic, turned out to be flames coming from a patio heater, all was well.
• Subject disturbing at Starbucks in the 500 block of State Street.

Scanner Reports, Saturday:

• Fall victim, 500 block of East Arrellaga.
• Premises check Vera Cruz Park.
• Allergic reaction, 200 block of Hemlock, medical call.
• Medical call, 400 block of South Ranch.
• Fuel Depot, 101 West Carrillo, assault.
• Check the welfare of a subject left Santa Ynez Cottage Hospital with an IV in his arm.
• Reckless black Falcon, southbound on State Street from Figueroa.
• Medical call, broken wrist, Bishop Diego football field.
• Assault, Anapamu at Santa Barbara Streets.
• En route to SB County Jail, one SBPD officer transporting subject to County Jail.
• SBPD was looking for someone who was eastbound on Gutierrez wearing a grey long sleeved shirt and black basketball shorts, leaving 7-11 at 402 North Milpas in a hurry. I missed why.
• Report of subject with a gun, Haley and Milpas. They detained two subjects, but I did not hear any more about it.-
• Multiple fire alarms going off, 1 North Calle Caesar Chavez, never heard anything about a fire.
• Illegal dumping, 700 block of Guadalupe.
• Traumatic injury, Ellwood Bluffs.
• Vehicle fire, Highway 101 at Palmer Road, Santa Maria.
• Live band, Holly at Sawyer.
• Someone took a pee pee or poo poo and walked into Figueroa Mountain.
• Subject disturbing at 7-11, 331 West Montecito, plus the hold-up alarm was going off, but did not hear they was held up.
• 18 year-old kid steals eggs from Albertsons on Highway 246 and makes clean getaway in a silver sedan, last seen towards Tom’s Gas.
• Loud drumming coming from the Arlington at 10 pm ish.
• Check the welfare of a subject parked without a car in parking spot D at 3408 State Street.
• Overdose on alcohol, Del Playa at Del Sur in IV.

Scanner Reports, Sunday:

• Check the welfare of a drunk subject in the first block of Calle Morales, lacerations on his hands.
• Vehicle fire, a Dodge Rambler, was reported to be on fire at Cota and DLV. I never heard of a Dodge Rambler, but that is what the dispatcher said. Engine One responded and said there was no fire, which makes sense because there is no such thing as a Dodge Rambler either.
• Subject slumped over the wheel of a vehicle in the 1300 block of Castillo.
• Tree down across roadway, Highway 154 at 246 in Buellton.
• Neighbors not getting along in the 100 block of West Micheltorena.
• Domestic, 3300 block of Orcutt Road.
• Bicyclist down with a head injury, west parking lot of the Cabrillo Beach House, 1118 East Cabrillo.
• Naked male entered a motel room through a sliding glass door at 15 Chapala Street, and left when noticed by the reporting party. Last seen heading for the beach.
• Highway 101 SB at Los Carneros, vehicle possibly into a tree.
• Was checking out this accident Clark at Dominion Road. A small car hit a parked truck, major injuries. This woman told responders she fell down the stairs, but had glass and debris all over her clothing. Maybe it felt that way.
• Non injury hit and run, 132 Harbor Way.
• Another non injury hit and run, 300 block of West Ortega.
• Helicopter crash, Santa Barbara Airport, minor to moderate injuries.
• Non injury hit and run at McDonalds, 3900 block of State Street.
• Argument at the Med Center, 319 North Milpas.
• Theft of drugs, 500 block of Mercury.
• Individual yelling obscenities at the corner of Cota and State Street.
