Scanner Reports 5-1-19

By Roger the Scanner Guy

All day on MONday I was trying to find information on this guy who had escaped from a mental health facility up near San Francisco and was thought to be in the Santa Barbara area. He was  dangerous or so one “Be On The Lookout” said he was. He was driving a 2017 Toyota Prius he ripped off as he made his escape. I could not find any information on the guy, just what I heard on the scanner and that did not make me feel that he was dangerous. It was as if his escape wasn’t taken that seriously, sources told me this morning he was found last night by Santa Barbara Police and taken into custody on upper State street on the North Side of town. Which is good I guess, the dangerous escapee is off the streets.

I started thinking about how he drove when driving down here, did he drive normally or did he drive abnormally as if he was mentally ill? There are a lot of people who are mentally ill who not only have California State drivers licenses but vehicles too and are allowed to drive, I wonder why? Mentally ill people are not allowed to have a gun why are they allowed to drive, but not have a gun?  Just one of those things I wonder about.

A lot of burglaries and thefts on the Mesa lately, don’t worry though they will be coming to a neighborHOOD near you soon, always be aware of your surroundings lock up. Lock everything up….Unless it’s something you don’t want then leave it outside sooner or later some idiot will come by and take it thinking they ripped it off, thinking they got away with something…Here are your Scanner Reports.

  1. Yeah Roger, please don’t pollute people’s minds by saying something as ignorant as “people with mental illness shouldn’t drive”. You should be ashamed of yourself for stigmatizing people who already have enough problems. Please share your extensive research that shows people with mental illness are worse drivers, or more likely to do damage with a motor vehicle. I had a sister who struggled with mental illness, and in her entire life before she killed herself, she was a careful licensed driver with a perfect driving record. TO ALL EDHAT READERS: Please ignore this verbal diarrhea. And tell the people in your life who have mental illness that you care about them. It could make a huge difference.

  2. David Attias Febuary 23rd, 2001 The Isla Vista killings…I’m not ashamed of myself at all nor am I sorry this is a subject that has been debated for years I first heard about it in the early 2000,’s If you think I am polluting other peoples minds it sounds to me as if you have no control of your own…Ashamed of myself? Why you must love the fact that you lay your crap on people with your abusive way and you actually get them to feel bad about themselves. I bet it gets you off doing that to people… Yea will not me I don’t feel bad and as far as ignorance I think you pretty much have that sewed up.

  3. I believe there are many different degrees of “mental illness” and not all need to be in institutions. Chronic depression is a mental illness, but no reason not to have a car and drivers license. For one thing, they can bust anyone for car theft, like this guy.

  4. Hey congrats, you mentioned an instance when a mentally ill person used a car as a weapon. Don’t let ANYONE with mental illness drive!!! Better prohibit the 1-in-5 people who have suffered from mental illness every year (look it up). Have you lost a loved one due to mental illness? I have. Do you even KNOW what M.I. even is?? Or do you think it’s only that “kooky guy rambling on the streetcorner?” It strikes EVERY. SINGLE. TYPE. OF. PERSON. Check your knee-jerk prejudices that show up too much in too many posts around this site. Sorry if this gets flagged & deleted, I’m just sick of it, and of the hero status they give you. It makes me hardly ever come to Edhat anymore. Sorry to ramble. I’m just sad about your opinions of people who get the disease of mental illness. 🙁

  5. For The Record: I don’t wanna fight with you, Roger. I don’t happen to like you or your views, but I certainly support your right to espouse them. What I wanted to emphasize, which may have gotten lost in the banter, was: Veterans with PTSD suffer from mental illness. People with depression (due to the loss of a loved one, general sadness at the state of the world, and thousands of other reasons) suffer from mental illness. If you’ll admit that you think a military veteran with PTSD should be denied a driver’s license, then i can’t help with that.

  6. So. I posted this morning, but have been thinking about this thread on and off all day. I would like to give 2 cents. First to Roger. I have noticed that many people say ” Thanks, Roger, for your posts and reports.” I think that at this point, you should have enough confidence in your abilities to not let another person’s comments get you down nor anger you. You are loved. And to Natureboy. I think that what you saw in that post hit you like a ton of rocks. I am sure that what you saw was not intended to do that. Peace to all.

  7. I’m not prejudice at all I have had anxiety and depression most of my life and during the times I have had a vehicle I have had a perfect driving record also since I came to California, before that I was a drunk driver. I did not say that mentally ill people should not be allowed to drive I questioned weather or not the so called dangerous mental patient who escaped and ripped off the car drove normally or abnormally since he was considered to be mentally ill. I never said anything about not allowing anyone who is mentally ill to drive You went with that when you blew the subject way out there…..Where are you going with this anyway China? I also questioned why is it that a mentally ill person could have a California drivers license but not a gun license? For the record I have PTSD also due to being a survivor of child abuse, molestation, rape, and having taken the life of a molester…I’m no hero but I see you want to be the HERO so here take it YOU BE THE HER… Feel free to google having a drivers license and mental illness there are several articles on this very subject I’m sure that you are going to read all of the articles and write to the authors condemning them as you have me. I never said that veterans with PTSD should not be allowed to drive again you said that trying to put your words in my mouth…What are you an Insurance salesman? It’s been fun but it’s time for me to take my medication now Have a nice day Hero.
